Secondly school teacher here! Girls names beginning with E are RIFE. Literally half the class would have a short 3 or 4 letter name beginning with E. It made it so hard to remember/distinguish. I think a lot of those names are really pretty, but wouldn't call either of my girls a name beginning with E for that reason. So Ellen is not rare and is a definite 'no' from me, even though it's a pretty name.

Ellen is my name and I actually like it. I don't hear it often and my family and friends call me "Ell".

I like Max from your boys list 😊

Fawbs89 · 22/10/2023 22:40

I love Freddie its on my list as a fave.

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 22/10/2023 22:40

Wow never heard Mara before that's beautiful. Also Mae 💕

From the boys I love Max 💙

elm26 · 22/10/2023 22:40

Just to add I'm 30 so not "old" x

Here in Scotland, I don't know of an Ellen under 60, it's short for Helen and very much a granny name.

I'm 30 and called Ellen and it's not short for Helen, that's a completely different name? 😂

StrangePaintName · 22/10/2023 22:42

Mara or Ellen, Patrick.

TemporarilyshyAF · 22/10/2023 22:43

Ellen and Patrick are gorgeous

StampOnTheGround · 22/10/2023 22:44

Zoe and Max would be my picks.

I quite like Freddie and maybe Ellen, but not keen on any of the others.

HerMammy · 22/10/2023 22:46

@elm
Ellen is a female given name, a diminutive of Elizabeth, Eleanor, Elena, and Helen.
Always has been a version of Helen, because you're not aware doesn't mean it's not.

TrustPenguins · 22/10/2023 22:50

Robyn or Freddie

RobinGet · 22/10/2023 22:55

Ellen and Frank.

User6761 · 22/10/2023 23:37

Love Ellen and Patrick

Arghghghghfg · 23/10/2023 00:00

Robin for either sex.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 23/10/2023 00:04

Robyn for a girl
Frederick for a boy.

GreenestValley · 23/10/2023 06:43

Ellen was originally a diminutive for Helen the same way Anna was originally a diminutive for Hannah. Or Margot for Margaret… etc. doesn’t mean that Ellen isn’t now a proper name, as those others are too.

I’d choose Zoe for a girl and Max for a boy.

Elin is lovely too, prefer it to Ellen.

yikesanotherbooboo · 23/10/2023 07:43

Mae : not keen
Mara : ok
Zoe: I like
Ellen : I think I like this
Robin: quite like also

Max: not my favourite
Fred : yes , Freddie : No
Robin : quite like
Patrick : yes
Frank : ok for Francis , I love Frances for a girl

mrboombasticwhy · 23/10/2023 07:43

Zoe or Patrick

staybyyou · 23/10/2023 07:56

Ellen (or Elin), Mara or Robyn. I love Robbie for a girl.

Frank is my favourite. There are a LOT of Freddie's around, so although it's a nice name it's waaay too popular for me. Also like Patrick and Robin.

DeathRattleDazzle · 23/10/2023 08:03

Mara and Patrick. I like Irish/Scottish type names so I'm drawn to them.

Zoe and Max would be my second choices, not keen on any of the others. The Ellens I know are middle aged. Frank and Freddie are not my style at all although popular at the moment.

MariaVT65 · 22/10/2023 20:34

Mara means quite a lot of different things in different languages. It’s also irish for the ocean.

Oh, that's much nicer. I understand why people like this name now.

Peckahminn11 · 23/10/2023 08:05

Mae and Robin!
