Flora is my favourite of those names and I think it goes well with James 💗
Loads of negative, anglocentric comments here, for example I'm guessing Eirinn is the proper Irish spelling of Erin? and if folk get Ledia and Lydia mixed up that's their problem - it's manners to learn people's names correctly and it's a family name with heritage in another country, people would just need to get over their ignorance🤷 also don't get the comments saying none of these are classic names. Flora definitely is a classic name.

Edited

Wrt Eirinn - no, it's the dative case of the nominative Eire.

Nouns change according to case in Irish and also in Scots Gaelic (Hamish and Mhairi are examples of people mistaking the vocative case for the nominative in Gaelic).

Eire - nominative case
Eirinn - dative case (preceded by a preposition)
Eireann - genitive/ possessive case (eg. 'Ireland's rugby team').

  • sorry, can't do fadas on my phone.

The name Erin is 100% an Anglicised word and name and as such it doesnt follow the rules of the fifth declension of nouns in Irish.

My daughter is called Isobel James (James was after my grandad) but I thought they worked nicely together x

Thewineisgone · 21/10/2023 23:34

That was my first thought too. Had to make sure someone flagged it!

I think I like Harriet (Hatty) best

(Grrr - am new to this - was trying to respond to Harry Potter poster)

I really like Louisa it’s a completely normal name but not many about.
I also like Emilia rather than Amelia (less popular), Charlotte and then going off theme entirely I like Ariadne and Leah.
Ariadne was my English teachers name back in the 90s!
Im a Victoria and again a completely normal name but not used that much these days for children.
Ive 2 boys so not going to get to use any girls names!!

Veggievic · 22/10/2023 07:13

Oh and Isobel!

mumnosbest · 22/10/2023 10:54

I have a traditional boys name with an unusual/Albanian girls name then a third that's neutral. None of them could be said to go together but the kids have grown into them and I can't imagine them being anything else. Choose a name you love or with meaning.

DuchessOfSausage · 22/10/2023 11:04

Ledia - will be said as Lydia, Leed-ia, Lairdia etc. use as a middle name
Venetia - will be Nisha
Cora - not keen
Flora - lovely
Eirinn - not keen, will get misspelt and mispronounced
Tabitha - ok but a bit kitteny

Names don't need to go together, but don't choose something wildly different or too similar.

Emily

toomuchfaff · 22/10/2023 20:54

Ledia - to similar to labia...
Venetia - blinds
Cora - Dora the explorer
Flora - margarine
Eirinn - spelled wrong
Tabitha - cat

Beatrice - nice

JaneFarrier · 23/10/2023 01:48

Flora is the one I like best. Sweet, meaningful and easy to spell. I considered it for my daughter - and her brother's middle name is James.

Boiledfrogs1989 · 24/10/2023 00:40

I ADORE Cora. Was my grandma’s name.

James and Cora sounds awesome together. Really classic 🤍
