Sorrel or similar?

i grew up with a friend whose sister was called Sorrel and I always liked it. Does anyone know any other baby Sorrels ? Considering other flower names but not of the Daisy, Rose vibe.

I liked Sorrel a lot. Seren and Aster were two others I liked that I think have a similar vibe.

Sorrel is nice but a little tricky to say. I knew one a very long time ago who couldn’t say her S’s or R’s…pretty unfortunate and also unlucky as it’s not that common to be unable to do either.

Tigertigertigertiger · 21/09/2023 20:10

It's very like squirrel.

Which isn't a bad thing

theduchessofspork · 21/09/2023 22:14

I think I remember a Sorrel character in a children’s book..

Anyway it’s nice and perfectly useable

SnuggleBuggleBoo · 21/09/2023 22:25

I like Sorrel! Heather has a similar vibe.

I don't know any, have heard it, but the meaning 'reddish-brown' would put me off.

How about other nature style names?

Rowan
Fern
Wren
Heather
Violet
Amber
Autumn
Briony
Brooke
Pearl
Robyn (or Robin)

@Whataretheodds , it was in response to "You don't have to like the look of the plant, they have other properties".

The fact that a daisy and a rose are pretty makes the names prettier. Not bizarre at all to dislike a name because you don't like something you associate it with.

That’s really funny

FayCarew · 22/09/2023 15:30

@QueeniePlumtree, doesn't the colour only apply to horses?

I would name a rabbit sorrel

FayCarew · 22/09/2023 19:02

@QueeniePlumtree , ah yes, Nameberry. Such a reliable source.

Notellinganyone · 22/09/2023 19:03

I think Sorrel is lovely. Not overused or too flowery. One of the children in Noel Streatfeild’s ‘ Curtain Up’ is called Sorrel and I’ve always loved it.

wellandtruly · 22/09/2023 19:03

I know a Sorrel. In their 20s now.

17caterpillars1mouse · 22/09/2023 19:21

I like Sorrell - both in a cheese sandwich and the name

I know a little Viola which is lovely and one of the more underused flower name

LittleObe · 22/09/2023 19:25

No but i love it

It's a sour-tasting unattractive edible weed. Red sorrel is pretty in salads.. Laurel is toxic.
If you live in an area where they sound an L as a w sound, it will sound like Sorrow

You've never had sorrel drinks in the Caribbean then!

Scruffington · 22/09/2023 19:29

I think of Sorrel from the Noel Streatfeild book too. I think it's lovely.

wagnbobble · 22/09/2023 19:31

I adore the name Sorrel but then my husband said a big fat no - twenty years on I still think about it

nearlywinteragain · 22/09/2023 19:37

Only a horse but I think it is a nice name.
