Thoughts on Matthew for DS ? It doesn't seem to be too popular at the moment but I think it would sound very fresh on a little boy.

I only know three Matthews. One is 60, one is 29, one is 20. The youngest one is only known as Matt.

There were none at all in my knowledge in my DC school friendship groups (2004 to 2022).

You wipe your feet on a mat. It's a no from me.

GodblessHookyStreet · 21/09/2023 20:12

My Matthew is 16 ❤️

SkyeBlue28 · 21/09/2023 20:14

I love it

BoleynMemories13 · 21/09/2023 21:18

Matthew is one of my favourite boys names. It's an absolute classic and it baffles me how it's now just outside the top 100. It feels similar to Thomas, James etc which remain popular.

I'd say it's current position in the charts is all the more reason to use it. It's definitely due a revival (along with Peter and Luke, which are also far lower currently than their classic status would suggest).

"I don't care Matthew"

An influencer doing an impression of his white middle class northern mum. All I can think of when I hear the name.

AmyandPhilipfan · 21/09/2023 21:38

I think it's lovely but it would depend where I lived if I used it or not. If I lived in an area where he would get Maffew or Ma(tt) all the time I probably wouldn't use it.

shushymcshush · 21/09/2023 21:41

Excellent, quality name.

Agree with PP, massively underused.

Works well as a Matt or a Matthew, for preference/careers etc. Easy to spell and pronounce.

Has a lovely meaning too. And today is the feast day of St Matthew if you are that way inclined.

HoliHormonalTigerLillyTheSecond · 21/09/2023 22:06

Wow. All the Mathew love.
I really can't stand it. Or Matt. But hey ho, looks like I'm the only one!

Firebird83 · 21/09/2023 23:40

Love Matthew but not Matt.

Viewfrommyhouse · 21/09/2023 23:43

Love it. Wanted it for my ds' name but dh wasn't so keen.

MissionImpossible3 · 22/09/2023 00:05

Love it
i have a 23 year old Matthew known for most of his life as Matty but is now Matt. Great name

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 22/09/2023 00:06

This is my 16 year old nephew's name. Also a lady from work has a Matthew. I love it and Matt is nice too.

WandaWonder · 22/09/2023 00:09

I really like it but be prepared for Matt so if you are happy then it's a great name

CallieQ · 22/09/2023 00:50

Love it 💙

DramaAlpaca · 22/09/2023 01:40

Yes, go for it. Underused classic these days. I like it a lot.

Musicalnames · 22/09/2023 02:23

Love it. We know a baby Matthew. Hadn't heard of many since school in the 90s but met several baby and toddler Matthews over just the last few months. There were fewer than 100 registered in Scotland in each of the past few years but perhaps it's making a comeback.

Legobuilding · 22/09/2023 09:20

Thank you all for the lovely comments 😊 We are thinking of George for a middle name or possiblity James , I think they go well with Matthew.

NotFastButFurious · 22/09/2023 11:49

Both the young Matthews I know are Matthew James!

theduchessofspork · 22/09/2023 11:50

It’s nice

I slightly prefer Michael

RoseRows · 22/09/2023 11:52

Personally I don’t like it and find it a bit wishy washy but there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s a popular classic and would be refreshing on a baby.

Beaverbridge · 22/09/2023 11:53

I love it.

Goodornot · 22/09/2023 11:59

It is a lovely name. He will get Matt though.

Mark as sn alternative?

sandstormboots · 22/09/2023 12:01

I like it. It's popular where I am in Ireland

peaceinourtime · 22/09/2023 15:00

Will become a Matt 😐
