  1. Cornelia

Sorry, I forgot to add this one.

I only like Isabelle

I have quite a strong aversion to all the others for some reason

Brightandshining · 15/09/2023 02:43

I LOVE Edith so much but I ruled it out because of how popular it is at the moment. I know 3 baby Edith's. IT was in the UK top 10 last year I think
So was Isabelle.
I think Carmen and Genevieve are slightly more underused but still beautiful classic names so I'd go with one of them tbh.
Probably Genevieve. I think it's really pretty and romantic

Sleepnplay · 15/09/2023 06:43

I only really love Matilda and quite like Isabelle too. Genevieve is a bit frilly.for my taste but is very pretty. Not keen on the others, sorry op.

cherryassam · 15/09/2023 06:53

Edith was 83rd on the most recent ONS data.

My favourites are Isabelle and Genevieve

Carmen is the opera to me, Matilda feels like it peaked a few years ago and there are lots of Matildas here, Cornelia isn’t as nice as Cordelia to my ear

Mumofgirls2017 · 15/09/2023 07:06
  1. Carmen- not awful but not really for me
  2. Margaret- ok, could be ready for comeback?
  3. Isabelle- so many Izzy’s around
  4. Edith- like and Edie as nn
  5. Genevieve- not really a fan
  6. Matilda- love
user1492757084 · 15/09/2023 07:08

Favourite is Matilda.
Matilda Genevieve makes a lovely full name.

PerfectMatch · 15/09/2023 07:09

I like Margaret, Edith (nn Edie) and Matilda best. Isabelle is nice but v popular. Not keen on the others.

pilates · 15/09/2023 07:10
  1. Carmen - not keen
  2. Margaret - dislike
  3. Isabelle - very popular
  4. Edith - very nice
  5. Genevieve - dislike
  6. Matilda - very nice
violetcuriosity · 15/09/2023 07:23

My Iris has Carmen as her middle name as it's DP's Caribbean Grandma's name- everyone always comments on how lovely it is.

Sandysandwich · 15/09/2023 07:27

Isabelle and Matilda- I really like, they are lovely names

Carmen, Genevieve and Edith- are fine, They are personally not to my taste but I don't think they are bad names

Cornelia- I just see the Corn, its not a bad name just makes me think of foot warts.

Margaret- Personally I don't like it at all. I would hate to be called Margaret

PerspiringElizabeth · 15/09/2023 08:01
  1. Carmen- hmm, ok, I always thought I’d have a Carmen but I am in no way Latino/Spanish etc so thought would be odd. And seems dated
  2. Margaret- despise but don’t think I’ve ever met a nice one, other than a little one who must be about 6 now.
  3. Isabelle- dullsville I’m afraid
  4. Edith- it’s ok, know a fair few little ones
  5. Genevieve- like, Ginny is cute
  6. Matilda- nice
  7. Cornelia - FAR prefer Cordelia, but Cornelia just makes me think of Parker the artist so that’s a cool link
OopsieeDaisy · 15/09/2023 08:23

The only one I like is Isabelle, yes it’s popular but it is so for a reason. The others are not really to my taste.

PickledScrump · 15/09/2023 12:00

I love Isabelle (I have one and always get so many compliments) and Genevieve.

I don’t like the others

BinkyBeaufort · 15/09/2023 12:33

Love Matilda, the others, especially Isabelle and Cornelia I really don't like.

KirstenBlest · 15/09/2023 12:38

Carmen - like
Margaret - like but pick a diminutive
Isabelle - overused
Edith - a bit frumpy
Genevieve - a bit frumpy
Matilda - overused

KirstenBlest · 15/09/2023 12:39

Cornelia - Corny? Connie? I quite like it

QueeniePlumtree · 15/09/2023 13:01

I love Isabelle but not at all keen on Izzy. But like Bella/Belle

Genevieve and
Edith are my favourites 💖

Scottyme · 15/09/2023 14:23

I only like Edith out of your name list.

Margaret a close second but i would put that on the bc and use a nick name.

Lizzieregina · 15/09/2023 16:25

The only one I’d personally use is Margaret, but where I live, it’s quite common, with Maggie being used a lot.

No Ediths here that I’ve heard of.

Isabelle really is overused around these parts, but it’s a pretty name.

Fivebeanchilli · 15/09/2023 17:33

Carmen - not my taste at all. The opera isn't the best story
Margaret - ok.
Isabelle - ok but so popular
Edith - gorgeous
Genevieve - I like this but prefer the French pronunciation so much that I struggle with the English one
Matilda - like this
Cornelia - don't like the Corn part but love love love Cordelia

I would pick Cordelia hands down if that was an option.
Otherwise it's Edith for me.

DangerousAlchemy · 15/09/2023 17:37

hmmm. I'd say go with Margot rather than Margaret (will be Maggie I'm sure before long) or Matilda. Not keen on any of the others & Isabelle/Isobel will be Izzy & is v v common atm. My neighbour has an Audrey. V classy I think & not common. I like underused names like Heather, Hannah & Heidi. not many around right now.

DangerousAlchemy · 15/09/2023 17:38

I know one Iris too. Very nice. Or Violet maybe. Really not keen on Carmen.

DinnaeFashYersel · 15/09/2023 17:40
  1. Carmen - spanish wouldn't use it unless that's your heritage
  2. Margaret - love it
  3. Isabelle - like it but prefer Isabella
  4. Edith - really love it
  5. Genevieve - ok
  6. Matilda - not my cup of tea
  7. Cornelia - very Chalet School

I'd go with Edith, Isabella or Margaret

74Violette · 15/09/2023 18:42

My daughter is Isobelle (so slightly different spelling) and I shorten it to Belle ... love the name obviously! but there will likely be others in the class.
Genevieve is pretty.
Edith was my Gran's name, but not sure if it's a favourite.

Matilda is lovely.

Carmen is different, I like the Lana del Rey song.
Margaret - not keen on.
Cornelia - like someone else said upstream, reminds me of foot warts.
