What do people think of Nye for a boy? We’re absolutely stuck for boys names.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
cherryassam · 09/09/2023 11:08

I like it, it’s simple without being boring in my opinion.

I would probably assume it had been chosen with a nod to Nye Bevan unless the family is Welsh. I’m not sure why

Whinge · 09/09/2023 11:09

I thought this was going to be a post about New Years Eve, so on that basis it would be a no from me. 🤣

sleepymama3 · 09/09/2023 11:10

I immediately think of new year's eve, or Bill Nye the science guy. I wouldn't, personally.
Noah or Niall (pronounced Nile) seem similar to me

Almahart · 09/09/2023 11:10

I know a Nye. I really like it

MissBattleaxe · 09/09/2023 11:12

It's short fro Aneurin so maybe call him that with Nye as a nickname. It's a lovely name and a nod to the incredible man who created the NHS.

Figgygal · 09/09/2023 11:13

Same immediately thought New years Eve

Is it actually a name or a collection of random letters?

Purplecatshopaholic · 09/09/2023 11:13

I would assume you have Welsh connections, and/or it’s a tribute to Nye Bevan. It’s a nice name. Unusual but not too out there, easy to spell, etc. Defo better than the full version Aneurin.

hoophoophooray · 09/09/2023 11:33

I know a 10yo Aneurin who goes by Nye. I really like it

MerryChristmasToYou · 09/09/2023 12:34

@Figgygal , Aneurin Bevan - Wikipedia.

IHateWasps · 09/09/2023 13:04

It's a very unattractive name imo.

MerryChristmasToYou · 09/09/2023 16:20

The association to Aneurin Bevan is probably what makes me like it

AntiHop · 09/09/2023 16:29

Aneurin was a serious contender if dd2 had been a boy. But I had wondered if it was OK without any Welsh heritage.

Merrow · 09/09/2023 16:32

I know an Aneurin that goes by Nye. I wasn't sold initially but it has really grown on me, and suits him! I do prefer Aneurin though.

MerryChristmasToYou · 09/09/2023 16:33

I'd worry about how people might say it. I'd not get the pronunciation without knowing. Sorry. Otherwise, why not.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 09/09/2023 16:34

Bill?

Thatsmorethanhalf · 09/09/2023 16:37

I met a girl called Nye and thought it was a pretty name, in spite of Aneurin being a male name. Works with either sex imo

LetMeEnfoldYou · 09/09/2023 16:38

I like it, it's unusual but not weird. My friend works in the NHS and named her son Nye.

Me too

Nannydoodles · 09/09/2023 16:49

I quite like Nye, unusual but not weird, but I think he would have a lifetime of spelling and correcting the pronunciation of Aneurin (unless your Welsh maybe) I’m London for what it’s worth and I haven’t a clue!

SpongeBobSquarePantaloons · 09/09/2023 17:01

Bill bill bill bill bill Bill Nye the Science Guy

weeRagamuffin · 09/09/2023 17:03

Not sure. I have English, Irish/Scottish, Welsh, Spanish names in my family so I'm not a has to be William or Emily or it's down market type of poster. But this one seems too short. I can't catch up with it. Before i've figured it out, it's over.

It's a bit about Huw Edwards because I think Huw is better than Nye

MrsMitford3 · 09/09/2023 17:04

I don't like it for a name-also thought of New Years Eve.

DiscoBeat · 09/09/2023 17:11

I thought this was going to be about New Year's Eve!

So no

MissPettigrewIsWFH · 09/09/2023 17:23

Sounds like someone saying No in a broad Northern Irish accent to me

whatamidoinggg · 09/09/2023 17:42

I like it too!
