What are your thoughts on the name Thor?

We have Danish heritage and seem to produce blonde, broad and tall boys. My partner absolutely adores this name...

I know a little Thor and he’s most unThor-like. Don’t do it.

Loads of other less problematic names with a scandinavian heritage. Emil, Lief, Keifer, Oscar, Yan, Erik. All unusual in UK, but not so far out there to be weird and not so Godlike.

How about Torin, Torben or Torsten, which could all shortened to Tor?

I meet a lovely boy called Thor, his mum was Swedish, his name was pronounced as Tor.

Friends of mine have a boy Thor, but they are both over 6ft so he's likely to fit into the name!
At 4 he was bigger than my 6yo!

I would definitely go with something like Thorin or Theodore and shorten it to Thor as a pet name if you are desperate to use it.

Vg, except Thor isn’t the god of war. That’s Tyr. Sadly it doesn’t assonate quite as nicely.

I have a soft spot for Thor. DC2 would have been Thora had he been a girl. We weren’t brave enough with DC1.

Torin? Torfinn?

Very outing for me, but we have a child whose name can be shortened to Thor. 😊 I've had to accept that when he's a teen he may be known as that, but as far as nicknames go I don't think it's bad. He's 6.5 now and we don't regret choosing his name at all, he loves it. We have to spell his name out a bit for people, but both me and DH have names that often need spelling so it doesn't bother us. I think people either don't know, or forget that Thor (and other similar names!) are well-known in Scandinavian countries. It's not just the Marvel character (!)

Oh goodness this reminds me of when I was pregnant with my first years ago and DH wanted to call DC1 Thor. It was a no from me! Same reasons as posted above.
