Hello, everyone so I’ve narrowed down my list to these five after my last post. Now which one would you choose from my list and why? They’re all my favorite so it’s a bit difficult to decide. My partner loves Eva and I prefer other names. I’m leaning more towards Nina and Clara though.

Clara
Eva
Hannah
Lara
Nina

Obviously I like short names that end in ‘a’

How are you pronouncing Clara? CL as in Clare or CL as in clock?

OhYeahyeahyeah · 07/09/2023 12:28

Hannah! Timeless and suits all ages Smile

LastNightAPandaSavedMyLife · 07/09/2023 12:31

I love Eva but there are sooooo many Eva/Ava/Evie’s that she’ll just be one of many. It’s the equivalent of calling someone Sarah in the 80s.

TotalOverhaul · 07/09/2023 12:33

Clara. Love that name - the sound, the meaning, the look of it, everything.

KayEmAy · 07/09/2023 18:28

Team Lara <3

Alwaystired2023 · 07/09/2023 18:31

Nina love it x

neverenoughwine · 07/09/2023 18:33

Nina!!

I know a couple of beautiful, strong, cool, relaxed Nina's in their 40s.

I do also like Eva! Timeless

SpringIntoChaos · 07/09/2023 18:42

The only one I like from your list is Hannah (Clara at a push!)

Nina is awful!!
Eva is overused and a little dull (not awful but just so many of them)
Lara is meh 😑

@SpringIntoChaos interesting thank you for your feedback. How do you feel about Jessica?

Just seen your pronunciation post on Clara OP.

I've only ever heard it pronounced 'clarh-ra' to rhyme with 'Tara' or 'Lara'.

Obviously there will be others who say it differently...which might cause issues/be annoying 🤦‍♀️

LastNightAPandaSavedMyLife · 07/09/2023 18:59

I’ve only known Clara to be pronounced Clar (as in car) ra. Not Claire-rah.

Username134 · 07/09/2023 19:07

@LastNightAPandaSavedMyLife Really? I always say it like Claire-uh in my head. I guess that can be a bit of an annoyance.

@Username134 , I like it said as Clair-a, and that was how it was said until recently.

SpringIntoChaos · 07/09/2023 19:11

@Username134 Jessica is pretty...I'd put it in the same category as Hannah.

KirstenBlest · 07/09/2023 19:12

Similarly, Sophia was Soph-eye-a and Maria Mar-eye-a.

@KirstenBlest so would you say Clar-a is the more common pronunciation or Clair-a? Because if most people read it as Clar-a I might have to scratch it off my list.

OP posts:
KirstenBlest · 07/09/2023 19:41

@Username134 , how many people say Sophia as Soph-eye-a? I'd say, about the same as would say Clara as Clair-a.

If I saw Clara in book by Dickens, I'd read it as sounding like Clare-a, the same as if I was reading Shakespeare I'd read it as Mar-eye-ah. If I was referring to Sophia Gardens, I'd say 'Soph-eye-a Gardens'.

thinkingtoomuchagain · 07/09/2023 19:41

In the US almost everyone would say Claire-a. In the UK, most would say Clah-ra. (I think.)

Don't get too wrapped up in what others think - all are lovely names, you can't go wrong. Try not to overthink it.

FettleOfKish · 07/09/2023 20:11

I would only ever think / say Clar-ah unless corrected. And then I'd still think it, but I'd make an effort to say it as desired.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 07/09/2023 20:48

@BeingATwatItsABingThing are you pronouncing Clara like Claw-ra or Clare-uh? Because I know that some people pronounce Cara 2 different ways, Care-uh and Car-uh. But I like Claire-uh.

Umm… Neither! I’d say Clar-uh clar to rhyme with car.

WaltzingWaters · 07/09/2023 20:51

Clara. Then Eva

fridaynight1 · 07/09/2023 21:03

Hannah is lovely.
I really dislike Clara - I don't know why, it's a totally irrational dislike.

addicteetopawpatrol · 07/09/2023 21:31

Hannah or Lara

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 09/09/2023 08:18

Nina

delilabell · 09/09/2023 08:23

My daughter is a Clara! I don't know any other children in her school with the same name.
We pronounce it clar as in far then ruh if that makes sense?
I will say that people sometimes call her cara which annoys her!
It is a gorgeous name bit I also love Nina ❤️
