Hannah, Natalie, Hailey, Nina, Gemma, Bianca, Eva, Jenna, Lara, Jessica

So I’ve narrowed down my very long list to this top 10. I would like to hear your personal impressions on these names and which ones should be crossed off of the list and reasons why. Are these names classic? I’m really indecisive about names and I’d really appreciate your opinions. I would like the get to a solid top 5 or 3 after reading these comments. So tell me which ones are your favorite and which ones not so much. - OP

And Blanca instead of Bianca but I know that's not what you were asking!

ShoesoftheWorld · 06/09/2023 07:36

Ah, forgot Eva. Not 80s/90s but am not a fan. Eve is nicer if you must.

PerspiringElizabeth · 06/09/2023 07:42

My 1 year old DD has an 80s name so maybe I’m biased but a lot of your names were on our list too. Equally a lot of babies now have my name (born in the 90s). ‘Grandma’ names now are Sheila, Sarah, Cheryl, Lynn etc, so a lot of the ‘granny chic’ names that are in (Daphne, Edith etc) are actually great+ grandma names. Basically, people categorise names all wrong and get so hung up on it and it’s meaningless 😄

I know under 7s called Nina, Hayley, Hannah, Lara, Eva/Evie and Jessica so I think you’re on a good tack personally, not exactly uber-weird!

I’d go Natalie or Jessica.

PerspiringElizabeth · 06/09/2023 07:44

Oh and a Bianca! She’s 8 though.

Schoollyy · 06/09/2023 07:45

I like Nina and Hazel best of all the names you mentioned so far!

Congratulations!

Username134 · 06/09/2023 07:48

@ShoesoftheWorld I’m glad you really like Clara. It’s actually a name I just recently considered after the English singer Clara La San who makes lovely ethereal music. Highly recommend! “in this darkness” is a wonderful song.

I absolutely love both Clara and Hazel! Definitely go for one of those

PerspiringElizabeth · 06/09/2023 07:49

Also people suggesting trendy alternatives eg Luna and Hallie… those are going to be dated so bit of a double standard. Those are going to be 2020s names like Natalie is an 80s name.

Do love Clara and Hazel but again know a ton of little Hazels so will also date!

So if you want a classic go with a royal name, basically.

Thank you all so much for helping me narrow down my list. After reading these comments So far Nina and Clara are my top contenders. 💜

love Nina and Clara! Good luck OP and congratulations!

CassiniG · 06/09/2023 08:04

You don't need a middle name. I never gave my children middle names.

Hannah - ok
Natalie - ok
Hailey - I don't like the spelling. Prefer Hayley. It's an ok name.
Nina - lovely name.
Gemma - not keen.
Bianca - dreaddul.
Eva - quite nice.
Jenna - no
Lara - lovely name.
Jessica - ok

booktokbear · 06/09/2023 08:04

Ok for your narrowed down choice, here's a vote for Clara 😃

yikesanotherbooboo · 06/09/2023 08:05

Nina , Lara and Jessica are my favourites.
Hannah is classic .
I'm not a fan of Bianca, Jenna or Hailey.

MyShmoo · 06/09/2023 08:10

Lara is the best by miles and miles in my opinion. It's elegant and classy
Everything else just feels very dated (but not old enough to be trendy again if that makes sense) and all super 90's
I activity dislike Natalie and Hailey the most

LastNightAPandaSavedMyLife · 06/09/2023 08:33

Love Eva but every other girl is an Eva/Evie/Evelyn, it’s so overused. Especially if you pair it with the filler middle name Rose/Grace/May, it’s the equivalent of being called Sarah Louise in the 80s.

Like Natalie, Jenna and Jessica.

Cant stand Hazel, find it drab. Love Clara, quite popular.

FoodFann · 06/09/2023 08:38

Hannah.

The rest are very outdated

jswn · 06/09/2023 10:41

Jenna or Nina

WinterCarlisle · 06/09/2023 10:44

Eva
Hannah
Nina

In that order. No keen on any of the others. Congratulations!

deedeexx · 06/09/2023 11:14

I'd go with Eva 🩷

mosiacmaker · 06/09/2023 11:20

They're definitely all names from the 80s/90s but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Like others I had some meanies at school with these names which is putting me off haha. I think some of the names are lovely and good names though!

These are my favourite 5. Gemma is my #1 from your list, you never see it these days but it’s actually a lovely name, nice to say and strong but feminine.

Hannah, Nina, Gemma, Bianca, Eva, Lara

mosiacmaker · 06/09/2023 11:23

sorry just saw your update. Definitely Nina! For some reason the name Clara really irritates me. She probably does ballet and is the sort of girl to start crying in a play fight.

Nina on the other hand is whip smart, maybe writing a screenplay in her spare time.

Workawayxx · 06/09/2023 11:25

Of the ones you've mentioned my favourites are:
Lara - love this and really wanted it for my DD (ended up with Louisa)
Clara - beautiful
Jessica - beautiful
Hazel - lovely, underused
Nina - pretty, quirky

Quite like:
Hannah - classic
Jenna - pretty

Less keen:
Hailey - prefer spelling Hayley
Gemma - feels a bit dated
Bianca - reminds me of Bianca Gascoigne
Eva - I know lots of DC called Eva/Evie etc
Natalie - feels a bit dated

FayCarew · 06/09/2023 11:26

I like Hannah, Jessica and Nina.
I don't like Eva, Hailey or Jenna
Quite nice but
Natalie - a bit long, might be Nat or Na'erly
Gemma - nice but seems a bit dated.
Bianca - EastEnders
Lara - quite nice but there seems to be a lot of L names popular

FayCarew · 06/09/2023 11:27

Not keen on Hazel and don't like Clara. Cara is nice though.
