Opinions on the name Eden for a girl? What is your first impression, what sort of girl does it bring to mind?
TIA 😊

The girl that played Sue in the sitcom The Middle is called Eden something (Shaw maybe?!). Anyway, such an endearing character, so positive association for me. Lovely name.

UsingChangeofName · 19/08/2023 17:09

Not very keen, but I've certainly heard worse Grin

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 19/08/2023 17:10

Surprised it's getting alot of stick!

I wouldn't use it myself but think it's pretty!

Sofiatheworst · 19/08/2023 17:47

Thanks all for the responses. Even the negative opinions haven’t completely put me off, I think it’s pretty without being twee, and can see it suiting someone through all ages. But I am not the one who has to live with it as my name so really good to get a variety of views on it.

It's ok for a girl.

KirstenBlest · 19/08/2023 17:53

@Sofiatheworst , it's in the top 100 names for girls, but not for boys, so it's not just you who likes it. Do you like the thought of her being called Ede or Edie?

I’m happy with it being shortened - I’ll be the main culprit as I like to have a full name with an option to call a shortening/nn to change between the two. We have a way to go yet until she’s here but I think it’ll stay on the list 😊

I like it

RitzyMcFitzy · 19/08/2023 18:19

I like it. I like that it's unfrilly.

I can imagine a female Eden being composed and clever and witty.

DigbyTheDigger · 19/08/2023 18:20

I like it. Would you say it Ee-dun, OP? With a clear D in the middle? Or Ee-dn, kind of squishing the second syllable?

mrssunshinexxx · 19/08/2023 18:34

I have a girl Eden , she's perfect and i absolutely adore her name ! Get so many compliments

As a cheese lover I might think I heard you say Edam when you told me the name of your infant, so it's a no from me.

Yeah I thought it was edam.

FlamingYam · 19/08/2023 19:33

I love it. Definitely a girls name to me. I would use it myself.

There's a film with Rhona Mitra and either she is Eden or her daughters Eden. I saw that film and loved it ever since.

FlamingYam · 19/08/2023 19:35

Just googled it. It's doomsday. She is Eden. Makes me think of strong women.

wakeuptooearly · 19/08/2023 19:43

I know a male Eden, who is 24, he's an absolutely lovely boy, definitely cares for others. I guess if you choose this name, you're a mellow, kind, nature sort of family. It is more popular for girls now though and I really like that too.

mathanxiety · 19/08/2023 20:00

I've never met a male Eden.

I know a good few women and girls named Eden, ranging from 2 to 26.

I think it's a great name.

Brexile · 19/08/2023 20:36

I worked with a lovely female Eden. Very glamorous French redhead, mid 40s.

Cattenberg · 19/08/2023 20:41

I like it and have never heard of the chain of bookies!

For a girl, I also like Edie.

BotterMon · 19/08/2023 20:42

Only know a male Eden and he's an arse so it's a no from me.

IVFfirsttimer91 · 19/08/2023 20:44

I love it. It’s also what we are going to name our child if we are having a girl!

Rummikub · 19/08/2023 20:49

Watch home and away. There’s an Eden in that and it sounds nice.

Feckedupbundle · 19/08/2023 20:49

My 20 year old Dd's middle name is Eden. She has a very classical first name and I think Eden goes well with it.One of her uni friends has a brother named Eden, but I've never come across another one.

Sofiatheworst · 19/08/2023 22:40

More positive opinions since I last commented which is nice to read. Thank you everyone for replying!

Until recently I’d only come across it as a male name, but now I know two teenage female ones. One is spelt Edun. It took me a while to get used to it. One of them is quite androgynous so it suits her. I’m not a huge fan of the name really, but there are worse names.

I’ve said it out loud several times to try and work this out and I think I say it more the first way.
