Lucy or Hazel

I'm torn between both of these names. Lucy because it's sweet, youthful, classic. Hazel because it's feminine but strong, classic but slightly uncommon (I accept that it might not stay uncommon), and nature inspired.

What do you think? Thanks

Laura is nice because you don’t hear it much. Unlike all the Evies/Avas/Olivia’s/Amelia’s and Islas who are ten a penny.

Spreadbed · 20/08/2023 16:14

Laura is so lovely at the moment as there aren’t many about, it’s so classic yet everyone knows it.

Laura Hazel, Laura Lucy?

BlueKaftan · 20/08/2023 16:17

Bertha anyone?

my82my · 20/08/2023 16:19

Hazel :)

Marcipex · 20/08/2023 19:27

I would love to have a little Harriet. Juliet is nice too.

Miriam44 · 22/08/2023 00:34

Lucy is a very popular dog name. So I vote for Hazel, although I don’t love it.

HappiDaze · 22/08/2023 00:58

Urm Lucy Letby

So no never Lucy

Copperoliverbear · 22/08/2023 01:50

I know three Hazels and they are all wonderful natured lovely people, if that helps. X

AutumnNymph · 22/08/2023 02:41

I love Hazel!
If you really like Lucy how about Lucilla with the options of Lou, Luci and Cilla as potential nns.
I also love Juliet and don't think Laura is plain at all.

coxesorangepippin · 22/08/2023 02:44

Hazel

AdoraLovesCake · 22/08/2023 08:31

If you like Laura you may like Lauren, Laurel, Lara

PuppyMonkey · 22/08/2023 08:45

I see the thread has moved on but I can’t understand the love for Hazel tbh, it’s a very dull 1970s dinner lady name to my ears. Pronounced Ay-Zel in a shouty way.Grin

WaltzingWaters · 22/08/2023 09:01

I love Juliet. Not a huge fan of Hazel. It also seems to be becoming very popular at the moment- I know a few young Hazels.
Lucy is lovely but yeah, just not the right time to use it.

Frances0911 · 22/08/2023 09:05

Lucy sounds pretty, but Hazel is less common. It always makes me think of twinkling Hazel coloured eyes, or the shiny Hazel coloured fur of a cat. I'd go for Hazel!

cordelia16 · 23/08/2023 17:01

What about Laurel? Sort of combines Laura and Hazel.

JudasPriest · 24/08/2023 10:05

Hazel because it’s my mothers name!!

I've been feeling really down about calling my DD Lucy after the trial but a friend of me reminded me of all the amazing Lucys out there:

  1. *Lucy Burns*: A suffragist who co-founded the National Women's Party and was instrumental in the passage of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution, which granted women the right to vote
  2. *Lucy Stone*: A prominent American abolitionist and suffragist who was the first woman from Massachusetts to earn a college degree
  3. *Lucy Wills*: A British hematologist who discovered that folic acid could prevent anemia in pregnant women, thereby saving countless lives
  4. *Lucy Liu*: An American actress, artist, and director who has been a trailblazer for Asian Americans in Hollywood
  5. *Lucy Bronze*: An English footballer who has won numerous awards and accolades for her skill on the pitch, including being named UEFA Women's Player of the Year in 2019
The name itself means light and I think this is more important than one evil person and we shouldn't be influenced by this.
faban · 26/08/2023 20:37

I love Lucy

Whatsthescory · 26/08/2023 20:40

I do not like Hazel, sorry. Every time I say it I think 'Wurzel' then 'Gummage'

I really love Lucy. It's so pretty.

Some alternatives that you didn't ask for: Amber and Lacey

EinyLinky · 26/08/2023 20:41

It really won’t be tainted forever, don’t worry. Look at how many people have daughters named Rose. It’s still a lovely name.

Haziebabes · 07/05/2024 23:27

My name is Hazel .i.m nearly 48. Hated it it when younger as always got bullied and called Hazel nut,. I’ve only met a few Hazel’s during my life. Hazel is the colour of my eyes so quite appropriate.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 07/05/2024 23:39
