Why should someone else dictate the initial of your child's name?

Sod what previous generations have done- this is your child

How about Javier? Pronounced the Spanish way, of course.

If you don't want a J name, put your foot down and say that you are vetoing the idea.

Jacob
Josh(ua)
Jonathan
Joben
Jeremiah
Jan (pronounced Yan)

Why not make a deal that it will begin with J but you will choose from the many Js available!

My mum named her youngest what her in laws wanted her called, she still regrets it and upsets her when shes had a bit too much wine... Name your own baby! they have had their chance or will have!

BUT, surely seeing as you're actually growing this baby and going through all the pain and discomfort, you could have an insy winsy say in what your baby's first initial could be!!
