What's everyone's thoughts on the name Peggy. We like the vintage names trend

PurpleBugz · 12/08/2023 18:56

I know a Peggy. She absolutely hates her name and was picked on for it massively

Hedjwitch · 12/08/2023 18:56

I like it

marshmallowfinder · 12/08/2023 19:01

I'm so sorry but I think it's a dreadful frumpy name.

salamithumbs · 12/08/2023 19:08

There was a Peig in my secondary school and while I never heard anyone make fun of it to her face, there were lots of double takes - people asking if that was her real name, etc, and people did discuss it behind her back. I remember a girl saying it sounded like peg leg and she'd hate to be called it, and others agreeing.
Having said that, this was maybe 15 years ago, before the older names were back in style, and Peggy is slightly different to Peig anyway. But I'd say a good few people would see it as very dated - and personally the pegging thing would bother me, as I'd say most people under 50 know what it means and I'd be afraid it would only get more commonly used in the future.

KezzabellaB · 12/08/2023 19:46

tictactoe1234 · 12/08/2023 19:54

No

TinkerbellefromYorkshire · 12/08/2023 20:04

I absolutely love it.
My late Mums name.
Wasn't short for anything just Peggy.
The teachers baby in Goodnight Mr Tom was called Peggy.

Coffeeandcakemum · 12/08/2023 20:11

I love the name Peggy 😊

Maireas · 12/08/2023 20:14

Probably due for a revival, like Doris, Mavis, Brenda, etc. We've already seen a rise in names like Elsie, Ivy and Iris.

Nellle · 12/08/2023 20:23

I really like Peggy, but it's off the table for us because my husband is too rude and well, he only hears pegging.

it’s not about being rude. It’s like calling your kid ‘fucky’ or something.

SpringIntoChaos · 12/08/2023 22:10

Awesome name OP 🥰 One of my favourites...I'd call her Megan and then use Peggy as a diminutive 💕

Threelionsandalioness · 12/08/2023 22:12

Love it 😀

@PleaseGiveMeBackMySummer

Because that would be my choice 🤷‍♀️

CrazyArmadilloLady · 12/08/2023 22:30

Megan is infinitely nicer than Peggy.

CapEBarra · 12/08/2023 22:32

YukoandHiro · 11/08/2023 10:12

Makes me think of pegging 😬

Sorry!

This was my first thought.

Definitely. Naming a child Megan and then calling her Peggy is very strange! 😬

doodlejump1980 · 12/08/2023 22:34

Popular in Scotland at the mo, but spelt Peigi.
