What’s the Mumsnet view on Artemis? I love it, but it was met with an instant dismissal from my husband. Does the NASA Artemis project change your view on the name?

Really awful.
Think of a real person having to spend a lifetime with this.

I would say it is a boy's name, because of the famous Artemis Fowl book series.

Artemis is a Greek goddess. It's a female name.

Artemis Fowl was bizarrely named. The name (in part) put me off reading the books!

I love it! The NASA mission doesn’t put me off, but to be transparent I named my son Mars ;)

With a long name consider there may be nicknames that are out of your control and if you’re ok with that. I don’t love Art/Artie, I’m ok with Missy and I really like Misty.

I love it!!! It's my current favourite girls name but I just wouldn't have the balls to use it (aside from the fact I won't be having any more children either!). I think it's lovely. Such a strong name

CurlewKate · 16/08/2023 06:34

It will always be Artemis Fowl to me. And therefore really annoying because he's a boy. Also-no shortenings.

Have you considered Juno if you're thinking goddesses?

Roselilly36 · 16/08/2023 06:39

Awful

Nameday · 16/08/2023 08:25

I love it! It's a strong name, not too cutesy but beautiful

I really like it, I know one aged 21 and she often goes by Amy.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 16/08/2023 08:50

Love it. Classical but strong and not frilly.

(Like a PP, I have an Iranian-American colleague called Artemis - must be a thing!)

I like it too but it’s not a great advert for Artemis if she has to use a completely different name as a wearable diminutive!
