Clara, definitely. Makes me think of Clara Bow, one of the most beautiful women to have ever lived!

I like Clara the best and it's the only one you both seem positive on.

Or there's

Cara
Lara
Dara
Fara
Mara
Tara
Zara
Carla
Clarissa
Cora

I agree, Clara does seem to be our sweet spot but something is holding me back.

Not sure what

Clara makes me think of the Klara character in Heidi. I like Georgia best or you could consider Georgiana. Hannah is a pretty name.

Jackonary · 28/07/2023 08:55

I like all of them but with Flossie as a nickname for Florence. And maybe Anna rather than Hannah these days?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/07/2023 09:04

If something is holding you back how about Lara instead of Clara or Flora instead of Florence.

Whichwhatnow · 28/07/2023 09:07

I feel the same way as you about Florence/Flo.

Georgia is one of my favourite names ever! I have known a few and they've all been either Georgia or Georgie (and in one case Gee/Gigi) - no Georges that I can think of. Most stick with Georgia IME - it's not a long name!

I don't like Clara, for some reason it sounds very... stuck up? Middle aged? In my mind Clara is a 40 y/o 'lady who lunches' living in a nice country house with lots of horses 😅 no idea why! I do like Cara, Lara and Cora as alternatives.

Hannah is nice but I agree with your husband that it's a bit bland.

I'm team Georgia! Also love a PP's suggestion of Francesca which can be shortened to either Ceska or Frankie (I have a bit of a soft spot for 'Frankie' as a female NN!)

FoodFann · 28/07/2023 09:08

I love them all except Clara.

how about nn Floss or Flossie for Florence?

Fivebeanchilli · 28/07/2023 09:09

Clara is lovely.
Florence is great too. The only ones I know are teenagers and all go by their full name all the time (certainly at school/with friends; maybe not with family?)
I'm not a fan of Georgia personally - all the ones I've met have been a bit rough. I love Georgiana though but it still has the same issues with nn's.
I agree with your dh that Hannah is boring. I prefer Anna.

I actually love Flossie but worried it would automatically be shortened to Flo

Florence- not keen on it
Georgia- like it but agree she'll be George. Georgina nn Gina? Georgiana is too fussy
Clara- don't like it, but like Cara
Hannah- like it. Anna? Annie?

TrueScrumptious · 28/07/2023 09:22

Florence is nice but Flo would put me off.
Clara - not keen.
Georgia -dated.
Hannah -dated and a bit bland.

Flora
Anna
Cara

bluechameleon · 28/07/2023 09:26

If you really dislike a common abbreviation then I'd avoid choosing the name. I didn't follow that advice and now have a child whose name I dislike - he chose his own shortening when he was a toddler and it stuck. Obviously I love him and associate the name with him now, but I hate new people hearing his name.

ShoesoftheWorld · 28/07/2023 09:34

Clara gets my vote. Lovely, simple, great meaning, not overly popular, travels well.

TaigaSno · 28/07/2023 10:30

Florence - I love this name, it's so beautiful, and I adore the city in Italy which makes me love the name even more. I like Florrie as a nickname.

Georgia - it's not for me, like you I see it as a bit masculine.

Clara - I like the name but it just feel a bit like a way to make Claire sound posh. I do really like Claire!

Hannah - I love this one. I don't see it as vanilla, to me it's a beautiful timeless classic.

I know a family with five daughters, named Florence, Hannah, Georgia and ... Lucy and Scarlet. Perhaps they are options?

TaigaSno · 28/07/2023 10:33

Or what about Flora? Seems a nice merge of Florence, Georgia, Clara. Short enough that it wouldn't get shortened even further to Flo.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 28/07/2023 11:00

My grandma was called Clara so I always think it's a pretty name

I do like Flora but it does seem much "older" even though it probably isn't

OP posts:
crabette · 28/07/2023 12:27

I know a Florence who goes by Florrie? Thought that was lovely, she's in her 20s.

I know a Flora who is mid/late 20s, stunning, funny, intelligent, very cool... yet somehow even she doesn't quite carry the name off 😅. Sorry to any Floras or parents of Floras, I'm sure it suits some people but I'm not a fan!

RosaSkye · 28/07/2023 12:39

Cora??

Louoby · 28/07/2023 12:40

Clara is lovely as is Florence. I know a young Florence as we can get flossy as a nickname

continentallentil · 28/07/2023 12:43

I like Georgia and Clara
Hannah is fine but it is dull - Susannah?
I am not mad on Florence, prefer Flora but that doesn’t solve the nn issue

How about..

Stella
Tessa
Esther
Ida
Tara
Dora / Dorothea nn Dora
Philippa nn Pippa
Harriet nn Etta

Bit more unusual:
Aphra

Oona
Thora
Honor
Hera
Lorna
Victoria nn Vita
Francesca nn Franca

Constance
Jasmine
Lois
Ines
Frances
Beatrice
Cecile

Verity
Felicity
Marianne
Caroline nn Callie

Lydia
Cassia
Claudia
Carina
Adela
Louisa
Serena
Selina
Susannah
Estella

You definitely have a similar taste in names to me although I'm not keen on Florence. I think Flo is the inevitable nickname and I agree it's not great - doesn't help I know a very cute dog called Flo!

I think Georgia is gorgeous and not at all masculine.

Clara is lovely and very classic.

Hannah is nice (and was on our long list) but is just my least preferred of these 3.

PossiblyNotOne · 28/07/2023 13:06

I really dislike Florence, it’s also really popular and a few years back felt overused.

Love Clara and Georgia. I know two Georgias and neither are shortened.

ourflagmeansdeath · 28/07/2023 13:33

Florence - Pretty and really lovely, don't think nicknames are needed and I dislike Flo/Flossie/Florrie, it's great on its own
Georgia - I think it's gorgeous but I do think Georgie she will get called and maybe even George but I don't think it is a masculine name on its own
Clara - Absolutely beautiful, my favourite of the 4. I can't think of cons.
Hannah - It is nice but very overused and your other names are better.
