Hi all
I’m expecting a baby girl in a week and we still haven’t decided on a name! Argh! Partner and I can’t agree but we both like the below names to various degrees. What would you go for? My favourite is Eve but partner isn’t too keen.

Any other suggestions welcome

Elizabeth
Eve
Charlotte
Isobel
Katherine

Thanks!

Charlotte

DustyLee123 · 13/07/2023 08:31

I would go with Elizabeth as you can get lots of names from it.
I don’t like Katherine, I prefer Catherine.

ThatshallotBaby · 13/07/2023 08:35

Elizabeth or Katherine. Lovely.

PossiblyNotOne · 13/07/2023 08:37

Every other girl is an Eve/Evie/Eva/Evelyn, it’s so overused. All with Rose/Grace/May as a middle name.

Rarely hear Katherine nowadays, I know a lot of Charlottes and Isobel’s, depends how much popularity bothers you I guess.

Fivebeanchilli · 13/07/2023 08:39

Elizabeth - lovely, not over popular, lots of nn potential
Eve - ok. Very popular a few years ago (I know several hundred in their late teens), not sure if it still is. A bit bland in my view.
Charlotte - lovely. Popular for a good reason.
Isobel - ok. I really like it but I know even more Isobels than Eves...
Katherine - lovely. Kate is a great nn too.

i would pick Katherine, Charlotte or Elizabeth personally.

CurlewKate · 13/07/2023 08:47

I can't tell you how lovely it is not to be asked to choose between Halcyon,Basingstoke and Margarine!🤣

I love Elizabeth and Katherine because of the scope for shortenings. Not wanting to add to your struggle-but have you considered Margaret? Also lots of lovely shortenings-Meg makes my heart melt.

OopsieeDaisy · 13/07/2023 08:58

I really like Charlotte and Isobel (personally prefer the Isabelle spelling but I know some find this ‘frilly’). Both pretty names and popular without being overused.

FayCarew · 13/07/2023 09:00

Margaret could be Meg, Maggie, Marg, Daisy, Peggy, Greta. I like just Margaret.

Eve names are too popular, so I'd not use it
Isobel is nice but she'll be with lots of Isabelles, Isabellas and Isabels, and will be correcting a lot.

Charlotte is nice but not keen on Charlie and Lottie.
Elizabeth is timeless, as is Katherine but I'd choose the day-to-day name.
I like Lizzie and Kate, but there are other ones you might like.

FayCarew · 13/07/2023 09:14

Isabelle/Isabella/Isabel have been very popular for ages, as has Charlotte.

TheIsleOfTheLost · 13/07/2023 09:35

From your list, I love Isobel. That's my favourite spelling of the name too. You have a couple of names with z sounds there, so if you like that style then what about Hazel?

aSofaNearYou · 13/07/2023 09:44

I think Katherine is the best balance of classic but not overdone.

SallyWD · 13/07/2023 09:47

All those names are gorgeous! I can't actually choose. I do know loads of Evas and Evies but not any Eves (well only an adult one) so I don't feel Eve is overused.

Aquamarine1029 · 13/07/2023 10:02

Vivienne

spiderlight · 13/07/2023 10:06

I like Charlotte, Elizabeth and Katherine, and they all have the potential for lovely nicknames if she wants them.

FayCarew · 13/07/2023 10:07

@SallyWD , an Eve is hardly going to stand out when Evie, Eva, Ava, Ivy and Evelyn are so popular, and she is highly likely to be called Evie by people.

PeskyRooks · 13/07/2023 10:14

I'd have Katherine and call her Kitty.

NBLarsen · 13/07/2023 10:23

I would use Katherine and nickname Kitty, or Elizabeth and nickname Lily.

Vexxa · 13/07/2023 10:25

We have very similar taste OP! Elizabeth and Isobel are our frontrunners for DD2. Im leaning towards Elizabeth, partly because I'm a little worried about the different spellings of Isobel and its popularity, although it's gorgeous. Elizabeth has a well known spelling and lots of different nickname options. I love Charlotte too.

RuthW · 13/07/2023 12:45

Elizabeth by far

Kd96 · 13/07/2023 13:30

Eliza :)

PrincessPistachio · 13/07/2023 13:35

Called my 5month old Baby girl Charlotte. I was against something really popular but actually amongst the current name trends it’s isnt going to be as popular going through school. Isobel and Elizabeth were on my list as well, Katherine is lovely as well. When I was waiting for my section the midwife was called Charlotte and it just felt like her when I saw her face. Enjoy your little girl.

Lorelai85 · 13/07/2023 13:47

Thank you everyone for taking the time to respond. I do love Charlotte but aren't keen on the nicknames Charley or Lottie, also love Elizabeth. I think we'll see what she looks like when she's here 😀
P.S I LOVED Matilda but my parter veto'ed, boo!

Love all your names. Have you considered Emma?

Mumofgirls2017 · 13/07/2023 13:56

I’d probably choose Elizabeth or Isobel. But they’re all fine. Katherine a bit dated though IMO.

I have, I do like it but I have a cousin of the same name.. we're not close so I'll consider adding it to the list if it's not too odd to do so.
