My DH and I have 2 daughters, we are now expecting a 3rd child rather unexpectedly and finding names impossible. Alot of the names we love have been used by other relatives or aren't useable. Our girls are -
Emma Felicity Jane Lloyd and Anna Eleanor May Lloyd.
Names we like and can't use are
Lucy (Lucy Lloyd seems a bit much)
Katie (niece)
Sophie (family friends child)
Beth
Alice
Lydia (Lydia Lloyd seems L, Y, D heavy)
We like but don't love Zara and Mary but we could use these (my mum is Mary but would be nice tribute and MILs name is one of the girls middle names already)

Sam (Nephew)
Liam
Daniel
William
Edward
Henry
Lucas
Oscar
Oliver
George
All unusable

We like Harry and James, potentially useable (in the family but not close)

Any ideas? We like more timeless, unlikely to date names and matching them with longer middle names which have good meaning then a family names, ideally the first name is no more than 5 letters, 2 syllables.
Any ideas?

I think
Mary Catherine Faye or Zara Catherine May are perfectly lovely but DH isn't convinced.
James Anthony George is lovely too in my opinion.

I was going to say Sophie after reading your daughters names, I wouldn't let a family friends child having it stop me either but understand why you might.
Sophie and Emily were my top girls choices, but Emily is too close to Emma to have in the same house I think! (I do love Emma too but that's my best friends name and I wouldn't give her the satisfaction!)

I also quite like Eliza, Aida, Eleanor, Louisa

Boys I love Thomas, Elijah, Ethan, Matthew, Jonathan, James, Nate (nn)

Dora Mary?

How about Isla or Lila?

Lisbeth50 · 06/07/2023 21:18

Tessa fits the pattern of your other names. I think Otto does for a boy.

Girls;
Tessa
Rosa
Zara
Clara
Bella

Catherine Mary are nice as middle names.

Boys:
Otto
Alex
Leo
Leon
Theo

Not read the whole thread but Emma and Anna are famous eponymous literary heroines Grin (ala the Austen novel and Anna Karenina) as well as being very pretty, simple and classic/timeless, so I'd personally look for something similar, especially for another girl.

Mary works well (so many great literary namesakes!) but maybe slightly old fashioned compared to still popular Anna and Emma? Zara works well in sound with Anna and Emma (repeated letters/number of syllables) but possibly a bit modern sounding compared to her sisters names.

My pick would be similar but slightly more classic Lara (Dr Zhivago and fits very well in sound with Anna and Emma)
But there's also Tess (D'Urbervilles)?
Charlotte (Bronte/the Webb) is possibly too long?
Jane (Austen/Eyre) great match but bit old fashioned again?
Nina (Bawden) - less popular but good match in sound?

Shame you can't have William for a boy (ultimate author name!) or Samuel (lots of writers too) or Oliver (Twist). But I think your suggestion of James (Joyce/or the Giant Peach) is a really great match to timeless Anna and Emma. Other classic alternatives:

Adam (Bede) if you don't mind the same initial as Anna?
Or Charles (Dickens/ or the Chocolate Factory)?

I like alliterative names btw so I don't think Lara Lloyd is too much (so I think Lydia Lloyd is lovely too! I've just never been that keen on the name Lucy 😂)

Before even reading your main post I thought of Lucy! I think Lucy Lloyd sounds amazing, and if anyone can pull it off.... it's the third child.

MamaDollyorJesus · 16/07/2023 22:35

Lucy my first thought on seeing the girls names or Jane

Thomas or James for a boy

Pasqual · 16/07/2023 22:36

My first thought was Emma, Anna and Louisa.

For a boy I like Emma, Anna and Spencer

blackpear · 17/07/2023 00:26

I also think Lucy is lovely and Lucy Lloyd sounds great!
Naomi is gorgeous. I hadn’t thought of that one.
I like Imogen and Natasha as well.
