DH really likes the name Lilith for a girl. I like it too, but not 100%.

Apparently its more popular in the US, but not so popular in the UK.

Just after some thoughts please?

👿 so no

continentallentil · 04/07/2023 22:38

Gwyneth?

This is a rare occasion where I think an association with vaginal steamers is going to be preferable

DuchessOfSausage · 04/07/2023 23:05

Delyth?

narrichi · 04/07/2023 23:05

It's the name of a demon/succubus who kills children in Jewish folklore. Most people outside of the Jewish community probably aren't going to know that, though. I personally wouldn't use it, but it's your call.

sevenbyseven · 04/07/2023 23:11

I really like it! But admittedly had no idea of its connotations before reading this thread Blush

TheHennaHairedHarridan · 04/07/2023 23:11

I like it.

All I can think is Fraiser’s wife

Depending on your leaning Lilith is either a demon/devil/succubus or just a name.

I wouldn't use it personally even though it sounds nice.

This! The mythical Lilith is a baby killing demon who stalks through the night stealing kids. Not a nice association and not really fair on the child

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 05/07/2023 07:00

Absolutely love it! But then my dd has a strong, independent female 'bible' name that some people might balk at.

MissSmiley · 05/07/2023 07:01

What about Liliana instead?

KnitMePurlMe · 04/07/2023 15:16

Frasier’s crazy wife in Cheers 😄

Yes

And sounds like a mid pronounciation of Lily, maybe with a mouthful of food.

DuchessOfSausage · 05/07/2023 07:31

It does sound a bit lispy, @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads .

1stWorldProblems · 05/07/2023 07:52

It's one of DD2's middle names as I like it & it's 1st wife of Adam/mother of demons history. It's her middle name though as DD1 couldn't say it properly as a toddler (when we were discussing names) and would be awful of she'd grown up with a lisp. (I had a friend at school with a stammer who couldn't say her name & she dreaded the start of each school year / new class when we all had to say who we were.)

porridgeisbae · 05/07/2023 12:46

I think teens etc/kids growing into that age will know the connotations as it will be in games, programmes, media over the years.

Kind of like naming a boy Damien in the 80s :)

There's always Lillibet 😁 (JK.)

Makes me think of children of the dust

I loved that book when I was a young teen/tween and all of Louise Lawrence’s books. I still have Andra somewhere.

megletthesecond · 05/07/2023 12:56

Frasier. Nightmare 😂

It's a pretty name though.

Anna8089 · 14/01/2024 22:14

Also used a lot with the rise of the white suprimists like odin. I would stay clear .

Milange · 17/01/2024 15:55

I’ve known 2, and one as a middle name.

Named for the reference to Adam’s first wife who wouldn’t obey him, and was replaced by Eve.

Sunday12 · 17/01/2024 16:15
