Honest opinions on baby names please

Hi, I’m expecting a baby girl and partner and I can’t agree on a first name for her. We previously agreed on Lydia but he now doesn’t like this. He likes Lily but I don’t.

What are your thoughts on the below? I LOVE Matilda but partner isn’t keen/thinks it’s old fashioned.

I love Matilda and Phoebe. I think Phoebe is less common at the moment, but Matilda has better nn potential if that's a concern.

Martha is lovely too.

Not keen on Charlotte (a bit dull) or Lydia (sounds like a nn for Chlamydia).

I love all those names. You can't go wrong with any of them, in my opinion. I think Charlotte is the safest bet. I don't think it's dull, it's a lovely timeless and classic name.

All your names are nice really. Matilda is perhaps my least favourite (sorry!) but there's nothing wrong with it. Charlotte is lovely but very common right now of course.

I'm not keen on Phoebe or Martha. I like the others on your list.

Thanks everyone 😊for me it’s between Charlotte, Phoebe or Matilda but I love all 3! How does anyone choose a baby name?!

All lovely names. I particularly like Lydia.

Matilda and Lydia, well realistically you have to rule out if your partner doesn't like them.

Martha, used to think this was a nice name but the handmaids tale really ruined the name.

Charlotte, it's a lovely name but it feels like it's everywhere at the moment, probably because there's so much royalty everywhere so I keep seeing princess charlotte, and am I'm anti-monarchy that puts me off the name.

Phoebe - great choice, classic and pretty.

If you like Lydia and your partner likes Lily, what about Lillian? Lia? Lila?

Martha - like this but reminds me of Handmaids tale
Phoebe - love this. I know one who is Bea as a nickname which is cute
Charlotte - like this, a classic, but not very exciting

Lydia - nice name but yes… chlamydia

I think Phoebe is the best but all are good names

Martha makes me think of Martha Stewart, so I think of someone older. I also work with a lovely Marta, so also like that name

I also like Penny, which might fit into being similar

I know a couple of little girls called Matilda. One nn Tilly and other one Mati. Cute
Phoebe - makes me think of Friends
Lydia is a nice classy name… but as pp mentioned it rhymes so would be a no from me
Charlotte - also know a few. Go by Lottie and Char. I like this name
Martha is a very common Eastern European name. I used to work with one, she was a nightmare lol

i like all of your list but my favourite is Matilda followed by Phoebe. I like Lottie as a shortening of charlotte.

Matilda - I love it (was on our list but we have a Toby and don’t want Toby and Tilly)
Martha - not a fan, feels a bit fusty to me. Also handmaids tale
Phoebe - husband loves this! Was worried people would always spell wrong?
Charlotte - love but only like Lottie not Charly as NN
Lydia - love

I have a Charlotte and she's Charlotte not Lottie or Charley (atm she's only 3)

Other than Martha, I'd say they're all good choices. Matilda is my favourite, I think.
