I have an Ezra already, which was a lot less common at the time.

Trying to find a unique name for a boy and girl.

Currently like:

Girls:

Kalani
Arazo
Melody
Mali
Amila

Boys:

Kobe
Rio
Keanu

Any opinions or suggestions would be great!

Renee
Ramona
Jasmina
Marnie

Raphael
Monty
Sonny

I teach all of those apart from Renee. In fact two Ramonas.

RhosynBach · 25/05/2023 20:33

Mali is a welsh name pronounced to rhyme with sally. Quite popular where I am

Snugglemonkey · 25/05/2023 20:35

Mali is not Marley. It just is not.

KirstenBlest · 25/05/2023 20:48

@DancedByTheLightOfTheMoon , I know people with those names. Raphael/Rafael is popular where I live not a recommendation.

KirstenBlest · 25/05/2023 20:52

@Snugglemonkey , I think it sounds like it in a non-rhotic accent.

@Arewehumanorarewecupboards
Is that djvuj pronounced "Dave"?

Fourcandlesx · 25/05/2023 21:02

I know a Thor. Don't hear of many if those

Hoppinggreen · 25/05/2023 21:04

Unique means there’s only 1, it’s very unlikely you will find a unique name.
Also, please remember this will not be your name so someone else will have to live with it

Blip · 25/05/2023 21:04

Flavia or Fabian

Indeed, and if it was unique it would be for a reason!

Missguidedsmiles · 25/05/2023 21:06

I didn't want a name many people had either.. my advice is look for a name which has a meaning then look up the words in different languages! That's how I got my sons name

I would love to meet a baby called Wolfgang!

Wolfie for short. Very cute.

One of the main characters in Outrageous Fortunes (NZ show) was called Wolf, loved him 😆

A Wolfgang would definitely have a big name to live up to, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Actually, I kinda like Amadeus.

WuTangGran · 25/05/2023 21:12

Babdoc · 25/05/2023 19:08

You can’t have a “very” unique name, OP. It’s either unique or it isn’t.
Unique means “the only one of its kind” - it’s an absolute, not relative, term.

Exactly.

MavisStrop · 25/05/2023 21:12

I know a teen Amadeus!

I have also met a Butterfly, which is definitely different!

My suggestions are:

Ezra and Naomi
Ezra and Oona
Ezra and Norah

Well apart from Melody that list reads like a hell hole of names to saddle another human with.

Do you really want to subject you child to a life time of embarrassment/exasperation at having to repeat, spell or explain their name to everyone they meet.
I appreciate you're desperate to be different but please spare your child!

This this this!

All my children have “unpopular” names, there is another girl about 2 years older than my dd with the same name and spelling, both girls were named for the same reason, my DD because it was my Grandmothers name, the other girl because it was a family name. Never met the mother until our DDs were older but turns out we have a similar family backgrounds and a very common name in our family histories.

Second DD, never met anyone with her name IRL, but it’s an actual name, one of my favourite movies has an actress with the same name, again it’s a name with family meaning.

Third again not met any with her name, but I know someone at my other DDs activity has a sister with the same name and I’ve seen it mentioned on MN as becoming popular in some area so maybe I will hear it more. I’d prefer it didn’t become popular but I’m not going to get upset if it dose.

My DDs have managed to have fairly “unique’ names for their age groups by the fact I’ve used names that have a family meaning to us and not because I set out to be desperately different.

Also please please please use the correct spellings, it just makes parents look like desperate idiots when they don’t.

@Snugglemonkey , I think it sounds like it in a non-rhotic accent.

I still do not think so. Do people go on holiday to Barley? Plus, even if it did, the child will hopefully travel in their lifetime. They will learn to spell their name at school and realise Marley needs a r. The more I think about it, the more ridiculous it is.

See these are lovely suggestions, Oona is one of my favourite names and was on my list.
