I have an Ezra already, which was a lot less common at the time.

Trying to find a unique name for a boy and girl.

Currently like:

Girls:

Kalani
Arazo
Melody
Mali
Amila

Boys:

Kobe
Rio
Keanu

Any opinions or suggestions would be great!

Mali is lovely

MonumentalLentil · 25/05/2023 19:42

Candida
Syphillis, Syph for short

Carbunkle for a boy

RumNotRun · 25/05/2023 19:46

Mali is a Welsh name. There's a TV programme called Sali Mali and the pronunciation (I think) is Sally Mally.

Sorry, but I hate it when names are spelled incorrectly in a desperate attempt to be unique.
It just looks like the parents can't spell.

It has to be Carbuncle for a boy

littlemissalwaystired · 25/05/2023 19:49

Mali is a Welsh girls name and not pronounced how you would so you'd need to be prepared for incorrect pronunciation of your child's name.

jenn88 · 25/05/2023 19:53

Mali is nice but I would get confused with the pronunciation!
Mila?

whatausername · 25/05/2023 19:56

Mali is a country beset by terrorist groups.

How is it pronounced? I'm aware of Mabli but haven't heard of Mali as a Welsh name before

ThatshallotBaby · 25/05/2023 19:58

I prefer Kali to Kalani.
What about Zinnia, Dakota, Lorelei, Gaia, Mirabel, Xanthe, Solange, Gisele.
Boys, Orion, Sholto, Acer, Fabian, Raul, Jago

Shadowworry · 25/05/2023 19:59

Don’t do this

Melody and she can’t hold a tune or isn’t musical
Mali - there is a war on etc

it’s just asking for trouble.

why do you want to do this to them? Do you think they will love it or it will help their life?

unusual fine - unique - just no

same for all the rubbish spellings they spend their whole life correcting

a strong girls name and unusual for now ie not that popular at the moment

Emma
Darcey
Francesca
Taylor

You can’t have a “very” unique name, OP. It’s either unique or it isn’t.
Unique means “the only one of its kind” - it’s an absolute, not relative, term.

I'm go mad someone still knows this.

What is wrong with saying "I want a very unusual name" anyway?

MrsSiriusBlack1 · 25/05/2023 20:00

Youneek

JeandeServiette · 25/05/2023 20:00

So glad someone still knows it, and simultaneously going mad, apparently.

KirstenBlest · 25/05/2023 20:04

Something is unique, and there aren't degrees of uniqueness. If you want unique you'll need to invent a name.

Girls:
Kalani - looks made up
Arazo - looks made up
Melody - not unique and similar to Elodie
Mali - it's not unique. It's Welsh for Molly, and pretty popular with Welsh speakers
Amila - there are lots of similar names like Amina, Amira, Amiya, Jamila

Boys:
Kobe - not unique
Rio - ditto
Keanu - ditto

JimmyGrimble · 25/05/2023 20:04

I can confirm I have taught a female Gary.
Still prefer that to some of the made up bullshit names on this thread.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/05/2023 20:04

Serenity
Maverick
Romany
Ace

KirstenBlest · 25/05/2023 20:06

@whatausername , Mali (Mally) is Molly, Mabli (MABBly) is Mabel

Came on to say this , but you get flamed if you criticise grammar.

whatausername · 25/05/2023 20:25

@KirstenBlest ah thank you!

KirstenBlest · 25/05/2023 20:26

@whatausername , Welsh is phonetic, and the stress goes on the penultimate syllable. The Sali Mali character is pronounced Sally Mally, and is Welsh for Sally Molly.

To get the Marley pronunciation, or something near it you'd need to write it as Mâli.

Lacey
Beverley
Sharon
Tracey
Doreen
Gloria
Maureen
Nigel
Neville
Darren
Raymond
Derek
Maurice

DancedByTheLightOfTheMoon · 25/05/2023 20:31

Marnie

Raphael
Monty

dariane · 25/05/2023 20:32

KirstenBlest · 25/05/2023 20:33
