Of the two, Austin. They look like two surnames not a person's name.

PickledScrump · 03/05/2023 19:36

At a push Austin. Not my tastes. Keep both and wait and see which fits

emmathedilemma · 03/05/2023 19:49

I don’t like either but I think Austin has too many S’s with Masson, it doesn’t flow well.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 03/05/2023 19:53

They're both surnames, not names, and very American. I don't like either.

WeeSquishy · 03/05/2023 20:35

I love them both! Really strong names without being too out there. Maybe swaying towards Austin if I had to pick, as i think it flows well with Masson

hlc123 · 03/05/2023 21:18

I like both, think Austin suits all ages where as Carter seems more of a baby/ child/ teen name.

Polzair · 04/05/2023 23:37

How is Masson pronounced?

seething1234 · 04/05/2023 23:39

Austin Masson is very similar to Austin Martin car.

ForbiddenColour · 04/05/2023 23:42

Really like Carter

I would say Austin of the two but agree with this.

Any other options?

Masson sounds difficult to say with Austin.
Carter Masson sounds fine.
Do you like Arthur Masson?

CallieQ · 05/05/2023 01:07

Pick a first name rather than 2 surnames

Massi2022 · 05/05/2023 08:31

Masson is pronounced mass (rhymes with with pass) then ‘son’ at the end. So it’s not pronounced like the spelling Mason which has a single S where the ‘a’ is strong. Hope that makes sense 😅

Of the 2, Carter. As Austin Masson sounds like Aston Martin cars.

I get that surnames as first names are in fashion, but I think people will get confused and think he is called Mason. Someone at school whose surname was Sharlotte was forever being called Charlotte even though her first name was an actual name.

This was something I did think about. Still trying to work out how much of an issue that actually is. As it’s not a brand that has any major negative connotations overall.

The surname is Masson (pronounced Mass-Son, rhyming with Pass-son) which isn’t a known first name where we live and with Austin being a relatively common first name I don’t think people will get confused and call them Masson as a first name, but I do get your point.

I know 2 Austins and think of it as a first name, in the same way as Martin, Gordon, Vincent, James etc are first names.

Carter is a surname not a first name.

Inkypot · 06/05/2023 17:08

Out of the two I'd say Austin although it does sound like the car brand.
Really dislike Carter. It just doesn't sound like a nice name to me at all and it's kind of jarring.
However it's not my decision so if you love it then that's your prerogative. Is Masson the surname? I'd pick something like Oliver to go with Masson as it flows a little nicer for me. But again- I realise it's not up to me.

Inkypot · 06/05/2023 17:10

I should add the reason I dislike Carter is cos it makes me think of Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine from the 90s. But obviously younger people won't make that connection!

Floralnomad · 06/05/2023 17:14

I don’t like either , if the surname starts mass like pass then the car will rhyme with the Ma which would put me off even more . Austin Masson sounds like a type of car

FlounderingFruitcake · 06/05/2023 17:15

I’m so confused about how your surname is pronounced because mass and pass don’t actually rhyme?! Or at least not in my accent! But I think 2 many S’s with Austin so if has to be one of those 2 then I’d go with Carter.

How can mass and pass not rhyme? Fascinated to know what your accent is as they're literally the same sound in any accent I can think of Hmm

Floralnomad · 06/05/2023 17:26

The words mass and pass don’t rhyme normally for me but the Op is pronouncing mass like pass / grass / glass

Kanaloa · 06/05/2023 17:28

I would choose Carter. Austin is fine but I just like Carter better. Both very wearable names for any type of child.
