How popular is Piper?

I love the girls name Piper, and I’m considering calling DD this. Is it an unusual name? Because I haven’t met any. Is Piper a nice name? Do you know any Pipers, and if so, how many, how old are they and where abouts are you in the country? I live in a suburban area in London, and I can’t remember hearing the name so hopefully it will be nice and unusual. Opinions are welcome ❤️

I know 3. All under 10 years old. South London

AWholeNewWorld11 · 17/04/2023 19:04

I have a toddler named Piper, we’re in S E London. I absolutely adore the name and have had so many compliments on it. I haven’t met any others. I got the name from Charmed, which I watched when younger

DGay · 17/04/2023 19:53

Piper was a name of one of the Charmed Ones.

Your suggestion that people change how a surname is spelt so that idiots who can’t read can pronounce it correctly!
that’s completely deranged!

People who pronounce Piper as Pie-per CAN read, that's how it's pronounced. If they want it pronounced as Pipper it's not deranged to suggest they change the spelling, because nobody is going to know that's how they want Piper pronounced

AintNobodyHateMeBetter · 17/04/2023 20:32

I can only think of Piper from the prison series Orange is the new black. But I know it's popularity has been soaring over recent years, probably because of the programme.

elm26 · 17/04/2023 20:37

Love Piper and I was a massive charmed fan!

Tinytigertail · 17/04/2023 20:38

My friend has a teenage Piper, she's lovely and her name suits her well .

How come?

it sounds cute to me and I’ve never known one on real life*

Pipe (pronounced peep) means blow job in French.

DelphiniumsBlueWildRose · 17/04/2023 20:55

Reminds me of names like Harper and Scout. Make of that what you will.

Ahhh yes!

Cismyfatarse · 17/04/2023 21:00

I went to school (in America) with a girl called Piper Horn.

Irrelevant but amusing.

Erm, how do you think names evolved in the first place and why there are different spelling of the same names??

the woman who originally called me out in it read my first post wrong and thought I was saying it the opposite way.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 18/04/2023 09:39

Brenda, I'm not going to engage with you again after this but when you post incomprehensibly you can't get arsey when people don't follow your meaning. Several of us have apparently read your posts 'wrong'. We are not the issue.

Snoopystick · 18/04/2023 09:47

I know of one who will be around 10 now. I’d put the name in the same sort of category as Harper as although it’s feminine it has an almost unisex feel - not flowery or pretty but a bit ‘cool’.

I have read the whole thread. You were referring to your friends as "they", a PP asked do they really pronounce it to rhyme with zipper, and you replied yes. YOU misunderstood who the PP was referring to - they were just following on with the pronouns you used.

MargauxM · 18/04/2023 11:51

I don't know any Pipers but I really like it! I think it would be a really lovely choice.

Bluevelvetsofa · 18/04/2023 17:35

I like it too.
Or what about Pia.

Mummytobe333 · 20/04/2023 15:55

I know 2. One is a close friends baby and one a friend of a friends baby. Is upcoming but not too popular. Personally I’m not keen on it as sounds very American.

Saturnsmoon · 20/04/2023 23:54

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 17/04/2023 18:32

’Piper’ is vulgar French slang meaning ‘to suck cock’. You don’t often hear it as a verb, more frequently ‘une pipe’ to mean ‘a blow-job’, but it would likely get a few sniggers. Similar innuendo level to Fanny or Roger, I suppose.

Same in Dutch. I’m not a fan of the name for this reason but also sounds very American to me.

saltandpepper86 · 21/04/2023 00:08

I love the name Piper, but as a gay woman it seems too stereotypical to use it (main character of OITNB is called Piper)

Sheisthedarkness · 21/04/2023 00:16

One and she is 11.

Isn’t Gillian Anderson’s daughter named Piper?

Libmama · 03/07/2023 18:45

My 6 month old DD is Piper. I absolutely love her name and most people we’ve told have said how much they like it. Apart from my mother 🙄 We call her Pipes, Pipey or Pip!

KayEmAy · 03/07/2023 19:07

Love the name Piper! I am shocked I only know of one :)

Personally I think it is in that perfect sweet spot of known but not common

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 03/07/2023 19:28

I like it
