Thank you everyone for the feedback. I'm surprised so many people hate it so much. Glad to see some people who know one in real life like it Smile

Names starting with K are generally not very popular here. (The Kardashian effect maybe) There are some exceptions like Katie or Kit.

I HATE the word chavvy. But sometimes there’s no other word. It just IS chavvy!

LimitMyScreenTime · 12/04/2023 20:09

I know two Kyrans, 15 and 12. Never had any issues with people pronouncing it as Kieran!

I know two and I hate it.

IlIlI · 12/04/2023 20:20

I know of two. Neither seem to have problems with people not being able to pronounce. I don't love it or hate it.

shutthewindownow · 12/04/2023 20:21

Sounds like one of them made up American names I don't like it

OMGitsnotgood · 12/04/2023 20:23

I like the name but am not a big fan of names where they will be subjected to a lifetime of having their name spelled incorrectly or constantly having to spell it out. I have worked with a Kaaren (pronounced Karen) and a Marc, it was painful hearing them spelling out all the time

Thanks. I was surprised that so many on here thought I meant Kieran. It didn't even occur to me that people may mispronounce it.

@inkworks273 it's because people are thick.

As soon as I saw the title I read it as it is pronounced. It's a lovely name if you like it go for it Smile

LulooLemon · 13/04/2023 09:13

No to Kyran from me

Thank you Smile

This is our second boy and we're really struggling to find a name we like. Kyran is one of the only names we both agree on.

I know a Kyran who pronounces his name as Kieran. I'll email him now and let him know he's a thicko.

oh, sweetheart, try not to get so tetchy. if I was looking for something to fib about on MN I'd pick something more scintillating than this name.

Has no one heard of Kyran Bracken, the rugby player? Serious heartthrob when I was younger!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyran_Bracken

Always pronounced Kirran as far as I knew

MrsMoastyToasty · 13/04/2023 13:37

The only Kyran I can think of is Kyran Bracken the former England rugby union player.

I like it.

escapingthecity · 13/04/2023 13:37

@MrsMoastyToasty snap!

It’s because Kieran is a common/established name but most people will have never come across Kyran so will relate it to a name they do know. Also there’s no real phonetic reason for it to be pronounced one way or the other.
