What do you think of Kyran for a boy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Phoebo · 11/04/2023 04:21

Prefer Kiran or Kieran

OhamIreally · 11/04/2023 04:47

Don't like it

GBoucher · 11/04/2023 04:48

Do you mean Ciaran/Kieran? If so, I've never seen the name spelt Kyran. Kyran looks like it should be pronounced Kai-ren (rhymes with tyrant without the final t).

MaireadMcSweeney · 11/04/2023 04:51

Kieran is much better

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/04/2023 05:14

It is an accepted spelling but I much prefer the other versions.

ShippingNews · 11/04/2023 05:24

Kieran, please ! Kyran sounds like a wanky way of spelling a perfectly normal name.

inkworks273 · 11/04/2023 05:33

It's pronounced kai- ren. Like Byron.

MaireadMcSweeney · 11/04/2023 05:42

Have you made it up? I've never heard it before. It looks like a misspelling of Kieran.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/04/2023 05:46

inkworks273 · 11/04/2023 05:33

It's pronounced kai- ren. Like Byron.

Oh no then.

savagelover · 11/04/2023 05:50

The Kyran I know is pronounced "Kieran"

PotKettel · 11/04/2023 05:51

no it’s daft and will be constantly mispronounced as Kirren.

MrsRickAstley · 11/04/2023 05:52

I'm not sure I like it

blahblahblah1654 · 11/04/2023 05:55

No. It sounds made up

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 11/04/2023 05:57

He will spend his entire life correcting the pronunciation from Kieron

Luredbyapomegranate · 11/04/2023 06:01

You mean the name said KEIR-run?

In which case spell it Ciaran (the original) or Kieran (the main alternative spelling).

I haven’t seen Kyran before (although I have Kyra) but anyway it will get mispronunciation and misspelling problems his whole life. Also spelt like like it’s close to the Kayden/Jayden school of naming which can attract negative reactions.

Phoebo · 11/04/2023 06:12

inkworks273 · 11/04/2023 05:33

It's pronounced kai- ren. Like Byron.

That's what I thought. Still like Kiran (like Mirran) or Kieran better.

user1492757084 · 11/04/2023 08:16

Byron is much better.
Kiernan I also like.

What if Kyran marries a Karen or Kylie or a Kieran!

BitOutOfPractice · 11/04/2023 08:18

I know one spelled like that. He hates the spelling. I’d go with Kieran personally.

VenusClapTrap · 11/04/2023 09:26

It’s a nope from me

TheFallenMadonna · 11/04/2023 09:31

I've taught quite a lot of Kyrans/Kyrons. Most pronounced as Kye-Rn. The MN name startle reflex strong as ever...

FatGirlSwim · 11/04/2023 09:33

It is a legitimate name, pronounced as the OP says. I know one who is about nine.

It doesn’t matter whether anyone here likes it, if you like it.

MrsKeats · 11/04/2023 09:34

There are enough names about:
Why make up an ugly one?

FatGirlSwim · 11/04/2023 09:35

user1492757084 · 11/04/2023 08:16

Byron is much better.
Kiernan I also like.

You could say that about literally any name! What if Jane marries Wayne, what if Olivia marries Oliver, Ava marries Ivo etc.

StagsLeap · 11/04/2023 09:36

I wouldn’t give a child a name that is likely to be mispronounced in your eyes because it so strongly resembles a well-known name which is pronounced differently. Most people will say ‘Ciaran’.

MissMarplesbag · 11/04/2023 09:36

Yes it's a bit of a marmite name, I don't like it to be honest. There are nicer names out there.
