Our shortlist…Boys Names

Hi all,

We are expecting our baby in the Summer for which we won’t know the sex until he/she arrives. We already have a name sorted if we have a girl, but boys names where the struggle begins. We have narrowed down our list to 3/4 names…

Jacob
Isaac
Rory
Lucas

How would you personally rank these names from best to worst? (Appreciate all personal preference) and do you see any standouts within the list or can advise of any negative connotations associated with any of those selections?

It’s taken us a while to shortlist our choices and now we’re struggling to seperate, so any helpful advice (good or bad) could really help us decide which way to go.

I think they’re all nice names but quite popular at the moment, I’m a primary teacher and I’ve come across quite a few children with these names but if that doesn’t bother you then any of the 4 would be lovely.

My list would be
1 Lucas (I also like Luca)
2 Isaac
3 Jacob
4 Rory

If this helps Rory is Irish heritage meaning Red King, Isaac is Hebrew meaning laughter (I think this is so sweet and joyful), Lucas means ‘man from Lucania’ (a bit dull really if you care about that sort of thing) and Jacob means supplanter (someone who takes the place of another through force, scheming or strategy - again not a nice connotation if that bothers you)

Don't like any massively but I do like Luca which is similar.

I work in a school and there are a lot of boys called Luca ATM. Genuinely more called Luca than Lucas. That is at secondary though

All perfectly unremarkable names. I've had several of each through my Cub pa I in the last few years.

Rory always feels a bit like a diminutive, even though it's not.

Lucas is my favourite

I like the other 3 but would personally take Jacob off the list as I don't like Jake.

I know a few Rory's but really like it, though not sure it would suit some men. Cute on a child though

Really not keen on Lucas / Luca.

Luke I like in theory but I have a (much younger) cousin called Luke and more or less daily there is some confusion over "Look!" Vs "Luke!" He always thinks people are speaking to him when they aren't and he hates it.

I like Jacob and Rory, not keen on the others

Jacob. I don't actually dislike it but I think it's inevitable it'll end up Jake and I hate that name and I don't even know why. Possibly the way we pronounce it here in the north east

My favourite is Rory. They were all on the list for my now teen boys but didn't use any of them!

I like all your names except for Rory. But that’s because I’m not very good at saying my rs. 😂
