What are your thoughts on Jasper?

Baby is 8 days old and I've been trying it out today and possibly like it.
It's not a name I've ever considered and this is my 3rd boy, but it suits my little one ...... I think.

Any strange associations / nicknames / celebs I need to be aware of?
Are there loads of Jaspers around at the moment?
Do teachers see Jasper on the register and think oh no he's going to be a nightmare / posh / a hippy anything in particular? Lol
Can we see Jasper being a doctor, and a guitar playing surfer and anything else in between that he may choose to be when a man?

And then what could his middle name be?

It's getting popular I think as I've met two this month (both newborns). I wouldn't think it was posh, just a nice grandparent-type name.

Weefreetiffany · 29/03/2023 08:51

It’s a twilight name isn’t it? So I’m sure we will see more of it as that age group grown to baby having age.

shakeitoffsis · 29/03/2023 08:58

Dogs name IMO.

pomegranatelover · 29/03/2023 09:34

I know one Jasper who is in his late 20s. I like the name. I'm not aware of any negative connotations - there's a Twilight character called it but he's fairly minor in the story. Can't really comment about the class thing because I'm not English and my community doesn't associate this name with any particular class.

Giggorata · 29/03/2023 09:38

Jasper was on my shortlist for DS2, just lost to another J name. Still love it.

evangron · 29/03/2023 09:40

Jasper was gonna be my baby boy's name.

Until Jasper was born a girl. Grin

WashableVelvet · 29/03/2023 09:47

It’s gorgeous. Getting more popular, now a top 100 name

Jasper is great.

SleepyRooster · 29/03/2023 10:10

I know twin 7 y olds Jasper and Casper.

Oldandcobwebby · 29/03/2023 10:16

One of my school friends was nicknamed Jasper (no idea why!). I really like it. I like the association with caddish and rather outré characters in books and films. It's a cool name - go for it!

ididntwanttodoit · 29/03/2023 10:17

It's a lovely name.

😅

AliceTheeCamel · 29/03/2023 10:18

I'm not sure - on paper, nothing wrong with it, but I know a 2 year old Jasper and in my opinion it totally doesn't suit him (obviously would never say that in RL!)

PurpleAirGuitar · 29/03/2023 10:22

I can definitely see Jasper as a doctor or a guitar playing surfer (and there's no reason why they shouldn't be the same person - even doctors have days off!) but possibly not everything in between. It would be a slightly unusual name for, say, a dustman. I think I'd assume he was an educated guy who had dropped out of the rat race - but that says more about my own preconceptions than anything else. The only specific association I have with it is a character in the novel The House In Dormer Forest by Mary Webb, a lovely old-fashioned romance (with some sly humour) in which all the siblings are named after stones.

Long story short - I think it's a fairly nice name (it wasn't on my shortlist or anything, but there's nothing wrong with it at all) and unusual enough to be an interesting choice.

itssquidstella · 29/03/2023 10:29

I really like it!

gettingolderbutcooler · 29/03/2023 11:05

Like it!

Mirabai · 29/03/2023 12:01

Jasper Carrott was not posh.

I have a Jasper, he’s ace!

ourflagmeansdeath · 29/03/2023 17:54

Love Jasper. Makes me think of the Twilight character every time!

Jasper James is something I have a soft spot for although it gives the JJ thing but I still like it!

Jasper Alexander is good too.

Ihavehadenoughalready · 29/03/2023 18:39

Don't like it. Much prefer John, Jack, or Jake.

thebestbirtheraccordingtoDD · 29/03/2023 18:46

I've got a Jasper. It's unusual enough, I only know of 2 others.

I love it
