Thoughts on Jasper

What are your thoughts on Jasper?

Baby is 8 days old and I've been trying it out today and possibly like it.
It's not a name I've ever considered and this is my 3rd boy, but it suits my little one ...... I think.

Any strange associations / nicknames / celebs I need to be aware of?
Are there loads of Jaspers around at the moment?
Do teachers see Jasper on the register and think oh no he's going to be a nightmare / posh / a hippy anything in particular? Lol
Can we see Jasper being a doctor, and a guitar playing surfer and anything else in between that he may choose to be when a man?

And then what could his middle name be?

I think of jasper carrot

SoShallINever · 28/03/2023 22:25

My sons friend is a Jasper but pronounced Yasper as he is German. I actually prefer Yasper.

TomatoSandwiches · 28/03/2023 22:25

Jasper is a beautiful name, a friends son is called Jasper, beautiful white, golden curls with almost violet eyes and the longest lashes you've seen, he was a very happy smiley baby, like a cherub.

TomatoSandwiches · 28/03/2023 22:26

No one in your sons peer group will know of Jasper Carrot btw.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 28/03/2023 22:26

I’ve known several Jaspers. They were all dogs.

I really like the name so if you do too, choose it for your DC.

Quinque · 28/03/2023 22:30

I've taught a couple, both nice boys, state school, not posh. It's a great name and a bit different.
It is a dialect word for wasp in North Devon, I don't know if it's used elsewhere or whether that would bother you.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 28/03/2023 22:34

I really like it. I think of a lovely semi-precious stone. Jasper Carrott is my era but I didn't think of him. I did know a lovely mum whose ds was a Jasper.

Kanaloa · 28/03/2023 22:36

I like it. I’ve never met one and can’t even think of many from a film or book off the top of my head, except for the one character from the twilight books. So I feel like it’s not too overused.

Kanaloa · 28/03/2023 22:37

I’ve never heard of Jasper Carrot though!

Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 28/03/2023 22:40

I taught a lively boy called jasper.

I really like the name, go for it.

Vintagecreamandcottagepie · 28/03/2023 22:40

Lovely not lively!

DarlingG · 28/03/2023 22:41

I think it’s cool but not way out there either. I’m a teacher and I’ve never taught one! Boys names are so hard but for me it’s on my short list

PaulaVerlaine · 28/03/2023 22:42

Jasper is a really lovely name.

FrownPrincess · 28/03/2023 22:48

A great, very under-used name. Dashing.

ginghamstarfish · 28/03/2023 23:31

Lovely, makes me think of the Tudors and beautiful gemstones. Quite posh.

AliceMcK · 28/03/2023 23:34

There is a Jasper in my DDs reception class, it’s very cute and fits in with all the beautiful traditional names in the class.

ilovewispas · 28/03/2023 23:36

My son is called Jasper.

I call him Jaspy. A few of his friends call him Jasp.

CuteCillian · 28/03/2023 23:40

My nephew is a gorgeous, three year old Jasper. His middle name is James, so we have taken to calling him JJ.

fairycupcakes · 29/03/2023 00:18

It’s a great name! I love it.

These would be my middle name suggestions for you, though it’s always lovely (I think) for a middle name to have some meaning/honour a family member ☺️

Jasper Jude
Jasper James
Jasper Ethan
Jasper Elliot
Jasper Owen
Jasper Daniel
Jasper Alexander
Jasper Jonathan
Jasper Stanley

Viviennemary · 29/03/2023 00:20

Absolutely dreadful.

Ventingtura · 29/03/2023 00:31

I like it.

There are animals with the name. And Jasper Carrott but his peers won't have heard of him.

It's a name I'd use.

Timetochangetheoil · 29/03/2023 01:31

I think it’s cool.

Does remind me of Disney’s 101 Dalmatians, my sister and I used to shout “Horace!” “Jasperrrr!” at one another when we were little like Cruella’s two henchmen. Doesn’t put me off it though!

It doesn’t seem posh to me at all, just a nice, normal name.

Pemba · 29/03/2023 02:25

I don't really like it because it can have a sort of pantomime villain vibe to it. Someone posh and dodgy. See the old song (music hall?) 'Oh Sir Jasper, do not touch me'. This may very well be unfair, and it's a traditional name. But I prefer Caspar.
