Ned?

We are thinking of Ned for our DS2, but I wouldn't want just Ned.
Is the only option Edward really? I don't like Edmund due to the boy in the lion the witch and the wardrobe !

For those of you wondering why it’s short for Edward, it’s because people used to call children “mine” eg “Mine Ed”. This is why we have Nell for Eleanor and Noll (not really used anymore) for Oliver.

I love Ned and we thought about it but some Scottish family members were absolutely appalled. I teach some Neds in England though and they’ve never had teasing around being a wasteman or a donkey. The donkey thing esp is dead as a dodo for this generation.

I knew being 'a ned' was an insult but I couldn't remember why. Love Ed and Edward though. If Ned is just a nn then it's fine but I definitely wouldn't have it on it's own.

Ned (short for Edmond) was my great grandfather's name :) I love it and we'll be using it if we have a second son. I'm surprised by all of the negative reactions. It's a normal, familiar, well used diminutive. It's not like OP wants to call her son Nazi or something 🙄

But then, I got told that naming my son Gilbert was tantamount to child abuse by online posters so maybe I shouldn't be so surprised 😂

I love Ned. Was a strong contender for ds2, with Edmund for the full name. Only ds1 was in full Peppa Pig stage at the time and Edmund Elephant is bloody irritating. Can't imagine anyone growing up now will watch the Simpsons, so doubt his classmates.would associate Ned with that. I feel it is a more popular name in Australia.

I can't say I'm a fan. To me it seems old-fashioned but not really ready for a revival yet. The Scottish meaning is unfortunate too.

I knew a Ned that was short for Kennedy, so that could work. Might not be your cup of tea.
