Girls name.....Ada or Fia?
BabyTalbot1 · 12/03/2023 11:46
Which do you prefer?
Ada or Fia?
Middle name will be Louise 😊
ourflagmeansdeath · 12/03/2023 11:48
Ada definitely. Haven't heard of Fia before and it'll get mistaken for Thea (which is lovely but still) and it'll also get lost in the endless Mia's, Tia's, Leahs.
Ada Louise is absolutely gorgeous as well.

Fia sounds like Fear?
or is that Thea with wrong letters?
BabyTalbot1 · 12/03/2023 11:50
I am Irish, and live in England. Fiadh is an Irish name but I would lose the 'dh' to help with pronunciation in England. I thought about the closeness to Thea and would the name get lost etc.

If you're Irish and want the name Fiadh then don't lose the 'dh', it just makes it into a non proper name. If you're really worried about pronunciation, then Ada is the way to go. I completely get that Fiadh will get mispronounced in England a ton, but Fia will just get lost. Ada on the other hand seems perfect to me! Good luck whatever you choose

I much prefer Fia.
I knew a Fia once, it was short for Fiammetta, which I think is beautiful.
Twoinapod · 12/03/2023 17:16
I’d go Fiadh. Ada just looks unfinished, isn’t a nice sound and just blends into the other Ava/Ayla type name.
lemoncurdcrumpets · 12/03/2023 17:20
I know a Fia short for Sofia. I think it’s lovely.
Garman · 12/03/2023 17:26
Fia(dh) is way overdone at the moment in Ireland anyway, so many of them in the last 2-3 years. Ada is a beautiful name.
Communionmom · 12/03/2023 17:40
DD is 6 and in her class there’s a Leah, Fiadh and Mia. Also an Ada and an Ava. And a Mya.
I’ve been very confused over whether some of them were different children or if DD was just mixing names up.
Goneback2school · 12/03/2023 17:50
Fiadh but with the dh. I have one and it's a lovely name. Mine is nearly 8 now but the name has become crazy popular in the last few years.
APurpleSquirrel · 12/03/2023 18:16
Ada!
DS would have been an Ada if he had been a girl.
Fireyflies · 12/03/2023 18:23
I like Ada much better and agree that Fia will be misheard as Thea, especially by children who often struggle with F and Th. Or Fear (It also looks a bit like Fiat the car, with a letter missed off).
thaisweetchill · 12/03/2023 19:08
Ada - if I had a girl I would choose this name, also because I love her in Peaky Blinders
JustJamie5 · 12/03/2023 20:54
Ada….. entirely because I wasn’t sure how to pronounce Fia.
