Middle name will be Louise 😊

I know a Fia, short for Sofia. Lovely name.

crabette · 12/03/2023 21:08

I much prefer Fia too, it's gorgeous.

Ada seems really popular at the moment and I really dislike it 😳 Not sure why. If you love it go for it though.

CurlewKate · 12/03/2023 21:34

Please don't use Fia. People will hear Fear, and many, including most children won't have the good manners or restraint to stop themselves saying "Fear? Why are you called Fear?"

Ada - if I had a girl I would choose this name, also because I love her in Peaky Blinders

This is also where we got the name from, now have a 3 Yr old Ada.

Ada has become popular recently, we double barreled it into Ada-Rose but she goes by Ada mostly unless she is in trouble. I still love it

MadeForThis · 12/03/2023 21:44

Love fiadh. Very popular in Ireland at the moment

Rionach
Clíodhna

All well known at home in Ireland.

smileladiesplease · 12/03/2023 21:44

The f one sounds like flee. Lots of Ada's now after peaky blinders. Much prefer Louisa

LuckyThatMyBreastsAreSmallAndHumble · 12/03/2023 21:47

I'd spell it properly op.

louderthan · 12/03/2023 22:03

Fia is terrible. She will get called Fiat. Ada just makes me think of Ada Doom from Cold Comfort Farm.
How about Ida?

user1492757084 · 13/03/2023 13:16

Louise is lovely
Fae Louise
Fiadh Louise
Adele Louisa
Finella Louise
Aoife Louise

HennyPenny123 · 13/03/2023 16:02

Fia is ugly in spanish, although slightly different spelling....

I would go with Ada

WildCherryBlossom · 14/03/2023 15:18

If you want Fiadh go with that spelling. People will get their heads around it. Most people in the U.K. have got their heads around Siobhan and Niamh haven't they?

If I saw FIa on its own I would probably guess that it was a shortening for Sofia as I have known a couple of Sofia Fias.

WildCherryBlossom · 14/03/2023 15:21

@HennyPenny123 I don't that's a cause for concern. Fea really doesn't sound much like Fia. The vowels in fea are clearly enunciated fey-ah.

Snoopystick · 14/03/2023 15:23

Ads just makes me think of the Les Dawson character, showing my age.

ShandaLear · 14/03/2023 15:23

My first thought was Fia-t Punto.

bubbles2023 · 14/03/2023 15:36

I love the name Fiadh (spelt like this) but I agree with others that in an English accent it sounds like fear or Thea. When I lived in England we were considering Finn for a boy, but my English SIL said it sounded like 'thin' (east London accent). We decided against it.

Meandfour · 14/03/2023 15:37

Whatisthisanyidea · 12/03/2023 11:49

Fia sounds like Fear?

or is that Thea with wrong letters?

This.

Ada Louise is lovely.

PatsyJStone · 14/03/2023 15:50

Don't understand why someone thinks they will get called 'Fiat' is that because the poster would call them that? Fiat is now Seat, I think, how many kids her age will even have heard of Fiat.
Same for Fear, when we start talking we don't really know what words and names are, we hear and repeat. I can't see her young nursery and year 1 friends asking why she's called Fear.
I'd go with the Irish spelling though

HugHog · 14/03/2023 15:57

What about Fiona for a similar sound? It's unusual these days.

vix3rd · 14/03/2023 16:07

Fia will get mistaken for Sofia.

octoberfarm · 14/03/2023 16:14

Absolutely love Ada Smile

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/03/2023 20:41

Ada I guess although I prefer Ida

Fia just sounds like Fear drawn out, or Thea by someone with an estuary accent, or blurs with Mia / Lila / Thea type names

Sorry to be negative - Finola is great, or the Welsh Ffion

SophiaSW1 · 15/03/2023 21:06

Ada

troppibambini6 · 15/03/2023 21:35

I have a Fia. Short for Sofia. It just naturally evolved but didn't think it through really as older daughter is Mia. Mia and Fia Smile

HuggingtheHRT · 15/03/2023 21:46

Not keen on either of them. There are some many similar sounding names atm - Ida, Ava, Isla, Mia etc. Find both of them quite boring...

ColadhSamh · 16/03/2023 11:46

Why would you change the spelling of a beautiful name like Fiadh which has meaning to something related to automobiles? It seems when it comes to some Irish names it's open house as to spelling, pronunciation and meaning. Other cultures thankfully do not adapt their names to appease but take great pride in their heritage, even in England. If some won't make an effort to pronounce properly then it says more about them.

By all means use Fia (even predictive text changes it to capitals) but not as an Irish name. Irish names usually have beautiful meanings and descriptions behind them so please respect them.
