I love Jesse. Is it really still an insult a Scotland? Would be interesting to hear the age of people who think it is to see if it’s just a generation thing 🤔

No. And it never has been. The insult is jessie. Jessie and Jesse are unrelated names, one female, one male.

I like both, I’d go for Jesse because Jude seems to be getting very popular.

Also like Jerome and Jethro

Reddahlias · 03/03/2023 22:20

The insult is jessie.

But that sounds exactly the same as Jesse!

IsThePopeCatholic · 03/03/2023 22:36

Both are great.

DeadbeatYoda · 03/03/2023 23:01

Both

Jedd is handsome. or James Edward - Jed

Daisybuttercup12345 · 05/03/2023 01:06

Not Jesse.
John?

DrFoxtrot · 05/03/2023 01:34

I like Jedd suggested by PP. Jesse is ok, I'm not keen on Jude - I don't tend to like the sound 'oo' in names, like Ruby or Juno. But I'm not naming your baby! So go with what works for you.

LadyJ2023 · 05/03/2023 02:05

Don't like either Jude nope and Jesse unfortunately I know more boys with that spelling

SunsetStrip · 05/03/2023 02:56

My favourite boys name is Jesse, I've never met one who isn't super cool, lol. Jude is ok.

TheFutureFreaksMeOut · 05/03/2023 03:02

I have a Jesse and he's never ever been teased about his name. The only issues I get is the same as the poster upthread, when I ring to make a GP appointment they always ask for "her" date of birth. I can live with that, I love the name and it suits him perfectly

ChillysWaterBottle · 05/03/2023 04:25

Both nice

But what’s that got to do with it? Jesse makes no sense as an insult- famously a strong male character, father of an ancient and long lineage. What possibly could be insulting? Jessie is the insult purely because it’s a girl’s name.

Benjispruce4 · 05/03/2023 08:09

Jude is nice. Jesse is not a serious name to me. The phrase ‘You big Jesse’ comes to mind or a cowboy.

That’s not the phrase! It makes no sense whatsoever. The phrase is “you big Jessie”.

Benjispruce4 · 05/03/2023 08:40

One letter difference. Sorry.🧐

Benjispruce4 · 05/03/2023 08:41

Honestly MN has lost the plot! A phrase is spoken and rarely read. So what difference does it make? I have no knowledge of the spelling of this name/s and name spellings can be whatever the name giver wants.

No, it’s not. The name is spelled the way it’s spelled to differentiate it from something else. One letter makes a huge difference. The well known phrase with Jesse is “the root of Jesse”, referring to the fact that he’s the father of an important dynasty and lineage. Nothing insulting. In fact, rather “manly” and important.

fajitaaaa · 05/03/2023 09:02

I like both.

Will get Hey Jude sung at him occasionally

Benjispruce4 · 05/03/2023 09:05

@daisypond but if it’s spoken, it doesn’t matter! I have no idea about the phrase or insult other than it being negative. So that’s what this child would potentially have to deal with. Most people are not aware of the specifics like you. Something for op to consider .

Blossomandbee · 05/03/2023 09:11

I love Jesse but agree with previous comments about potential problems with it. I'm not keen on Jude, to me it sounds feminine like a nickname for Judy.

GarveySister · 05/03/2023 09:12

Dislike Jesse. It’s a bit cutesy.

Love Jude.

SpringIntoChaos · 05/03/2023 09:25

Both lovely names OP...you won't go wrong with either of them. Ever so slightly prefer Jesse, but in an hour or two, I might decide I slightly prefer Jude (such is my love for both names)

Ignore anyone who says Jesse will be misgendered or incorrectly spelt...it's a very easy correction!

lemonmama · 05/03/2023 09:27

Jude for sure.
