Thoughts on jesse jude for a boy

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Really love both names.

Ignore anyone who says Jesse will be misgendered or incorrectly spelt..

But that's exactly why the op asked - to get honest opinions!

While I like the sound of the name Jude, it's the German word for Jew (and was written on holocaust stars) - personally I can't get past that association.

Not keen on Jesse as I think it will be confused with Jessie.

Love some other J names though - Jonah, Joel, Jack, Joseph.

Calling a man a "Jessie" is an insult in Scotland so I wouldn't go for that.

Jude is nice.

It is here too in our part of the Country.

I love Jude.

also really like Jesse. I do think the only problem is it’ll get mistaken as the feminine Jessie a lot if you’re in the UK.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 05/03/2023 12:06

Much prefer Jude.

BeaKind · 05/03/2023 13:27

Not to keep going on about Jesse, but if you would still use it as an insult, what age are you?

I’m 30 and I don’t know anyone my age that would use it as an insult.

According to (www.dictionarycentral.com):
Jessie : noun a weak or effeminate man.
A Scottish and northern English term of ridicule which has become widespread since the mid-1970s, partly due to the influence of comics such as the Scot, Billy Connolly. It is synonymous with nellie and big girl’s blouse.
There are two proposed derivations for the word; the first is simply a borrowing of the female name as a term of endearment, the second is a Biblical reference to ‘a rod out of the stem of Jesse’, giving rise to jokes on the subject of masturbation, etc.
