Before i add it to my list, is this nice or just hormones talking?

I've known a couple of Siennas over the years so this seems like a slightly unusual take on it.

I looked at the stats for its usage over the years in my country and while its never been super common, the last couple of years has seen a spike in the number of girls named Vienna. (38 since 1974 but 23 of those were in the last 5 years)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I really like it. We have a very distant elderly DCousin named Venice. I think I prefer Vienna.

I have a niece called Vienna. They get lots of compliments on her name. There’s also one in DC3s class. I think it’s really pretty.

I just hear SAUSAGE

Is that all the time or just in relation to this name? Grin

Figgygal · 25/02/2023 13:57

A big nope from me sorry
I'm grimacing at the thought of it

TidyDancer · 25/02/2023 14:05

I know a family with multiple (now adult) children, all named after places and one is called Vienna. I find it a bit odd when it's part of a naming theme (people used to snigger a bit when they realised what all the children were called) but on it's own it's okay-ish.

Cattenberg · 25/02/2023 14:20

I like it. I met a baby Vienna once (she’d be about five now) and I thought it was a pretty name. I don’t associate it with the sausages, aren’t they spelt Wiener?

In German Vienna is called Wien. So the sausage is a Wiener.

ReadtheReviews · 25/02/2023 16:11

It's aesthetically nice. But Vienna is very anti-children so that sort of puts me off.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 26/05/2023 09:36

@Klex Did you end up using it or adding it to your list? I really like it. I know MN can be quite traditional and ridged on what’s a name and what’s not, but language evolves. Also there are a few characters in American fiction with the name and it’s been used before in history.

I think a lot of the negative points won’t really affect a child. I can’t imagine children singing an 80s song or really being aware of it and likewise a cat in an old British tv show.

IntentionalError · 20/02/2023 18:50

How about Bratislava instead? Same part of the world, without the dodgy 80s synthpop vibe.

😂😂😂

I say don’t, OP. One of my colleagues had a daughter named Sienna; my face must have flickered when he told me, as he immediately said “No - it was not where she was conceived.” You’ll face a barrage of questions about whether you had a romantic trip to Austria 9 months previously…..

Stressybetty · 26/05/2023 09:50

Yeah, hearing that song as well! Brett and Angel from MAFS NZ daughter is called Vienna.

VerveClique · 26/05/2023 09:53

No!

How about Vivienne, Valerie, or Verity?

Biscuitea · 26/05/2023 10:06

Just call her Vi

Vienna is horrendous as a name for a person

Jackienory · 26/05/2023 10:08

Mystic and soulful but it says nothing to me. 😀

TallulahBetty · 26/05/2023 10:09

Lovely. It does make me think of AHHHHHH VIENNAAAAA but I do like the song, so not an issue

MidsummerNightsDream · 26/05/2023 10:10

It would sound to me like you liked Sienna but deemed it too popular so altered a letter. I don’t dislike it but I think if you like Sienna, just go for Sienna. Also, she’ll get fed up of hearing ‘oh, Vienna’ (showing my age).

Marcipex · 26/05/2023 10:11

I like it.
I also like Valencia, Veronique, and Venetia.

ZaZathecat · 26/05/2023 10:12

If you're put off by all the comments about Ultravox and Rigsby's cat, how about Vianne, like the character in Chocolat (the book/film)?

WilkinsonM · 26/05/2023 10:12

It's awful!

peachicecream · 26/05/2023 10:16

I'd assume you had some kind of particular connection to the place or that the child was conceived there.

MyBeloved · 26/05/2023 10:17

Sausage
Holocaust complicit City
Vienetta ice cream
Goodbye Vienna
Ooohhhh Viennaaaaaaa

Just no.

FriedEggChocolate · 26/05/2023 10:31

I'd say Hormones. I liked Alaska at a similar stage when pregnant with youngest DC (not called Alaska).

DonnaGiovanna · 26/05/2023 10:50

By coincidence I met a teenage Vienna this week and asked her if all older family members/friends sang the ultravox song at her. The answer was an eyerolling yeah. But would affect a baby born now much less, I should think.

Makes me think of the Strauss waltz Vienna Blood, which isn't ideal. Nice apart from that though.

lostinfusion · 26/05/2023 11:00

hormones

poor child will spend it's life having just one cornetto sung to them

Thebigblueballoon · 26/05/2023 11:03

First thing I thought was SAUSAGE.

That name is screaming out for an unkind nickname.
