Before i add it to my list, is this nice or just hormones talking?

I've known a couple of Siennas over the years so this seems like a slightly unusual take on it.

I looked at the stats for its usage over the years in my country and while its never been super common, the last couple of years has seen a spike in the number of girls named Vienna. (38 since 1974 but 23 of those were in the last 5 years)

Anyone else remember those triangular biscuits, milk chocolate Vienna?
Mainly it makes me think of Ultravox, Mr Rigsby's cat and Vienetta, like pp.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 24/02/2023 20:59

Came on to say “oooohhhhhhh
Viennaaaaaa” but I see I’ve been beaten to it by about thirty other posters.

It’s a good song though, and a pretty name. If you like it, use it. But be prepared for people to sing at her.

mauvish · 24/02/2023 21:43

I think just the same as everyone else - the song and Vienetta icecream!

If you want something that sounds familiar but will never be mistaken for her place of conception, what about Fiona?

BuildABlah · 24/02/2023 21:44

Um. No.

Vienna
longwayoff · 24/02/2023 21:48

Rigsby's cat? Goodnight? Why not Vienetta? Equally appealing.

incognitodorrito · 24/02/2023 21:50

Makes me think of ice cream if a child had the name. I lived in the city for 2 years and, as a name, it would still make me think of vienettas rather than the actual place.

BuildABlah · 24/02/2023 21:44

Um. No.

The best ones are the Käsekreine at this little corner stalls !

Starseeed · 24/02/2023 22:02

Ohhhh I’m not normally sure about place names/weird names as baby names but you might be into something.

But then I do really love Billy Joel’s Vienna and the meaning behind it, so it’s imbued with that for me and I think it’s a lovely name to give to a child because of that!

3 minutes in but whole thing worth watching :)

Starseeed · 24/02/2023 22:03

*onto something

Allthismidnighttalking · 24/02/2023 22:09

Ooooh Vienna! 31st poster to say same thing 🎶

Rigsby's 😺

We're all obviously in our 50's! 😅 It means nothing to me, ahhh Vienna 🎶🎶🎶🎶

pinkySilver · 24/02/2023 22:09

I like it

Sienna isn't even the correct spelling of the city people think they're naming their child after.
Vienna is a nice song and the name of Rigsby's cat in Rising Damp.

I always assumed that the girls’ name was a reference to the colour / pigment rather than directly to the city.

Vivienne?

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 24/02/2023 22:17

Quite like it. Do you have a connection to Vienna? Bit random if not.

Have also heard the name Vienne which sounds nice.

HeadsShouldersKneesAndMyGreatAuntsWalkingStick · 24/02/2023 22:33

Sorry but I just think of the cat's name from Rising Damp.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 24/02/2023 22:47

Speak for yourself, @Allthismidnighttalking - I’m in my thirties!

Ha sorry! How do you remember Rigsby's cat then?!

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 24/02/2023 22:53

I don’t! I just sang Vienna… although my grandma did have a VHS of Rising Damp so I’m sure I watched it!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 24/02/2023 23:09

Given that it's so similar to the very popular Sienna. It definitely sounds ok. My issue with it would be that everyone would assume that she was conceived in Vienna - including your DD as time goes on.

VeryQuaintIrene · 20/02/2023 18:46

Makes me think of the Ultravox song ("this means nothing to me") but I am old.

This.

I’d say it’s the hormones, but then I don’t like Sienna. It could be worse, she can always call herself Vivi

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 25/02/2023 08:18
