Noah, Isaac or Kit?

Hi all,

Hubby and I are down to three front runners: Noah, Isaac and Kit. Noah is currently the no. 1 boys name in the UK, Isaac is pretty popular too though I don’t seem to meet that many of either (I am a teacher in a middle school), Kit not so much. We don’t like any long forms for Kit so baby would be just Kit. We would do middle names though do not have middle names established for Isaac or Kit (feel free to suggest), Noah would be Noah Edward or Noah Edwin. Our surname begins with a D and I like the idea of me - and probably just me, unless he wanted to distinguish himself from many Noahs in a class - calling him Ned sometimes.

We have a three year old DD called Dottie (Dorothy). She likes Noah and doesn’t mind Kit. We’d probably call Isaac Izzy and Zac, I have come across several lovely Zachs as a teacher.

I’m due next month. Thoughts?

Love Isaac in its entirety. Izzy is dreadful, why the need to shorten? Like Zachary too.
Noah is overused and sounds like a strained protest and Kit is drippy and effeminate to my ears.

Pinkdafodils · 12/02/2023 08:25

I know an Isaac who goes by Issy. The emphasis is on the first syllable, I-suc

Heartsandbirds · 12/02/2023 08:44

Love Kit. Would have been my choice if DD was a boy. We also liked Isaac but I posted on here and was warned about him being called “I suck” as he got older. Some people said they’d never had that but it wasn’t a possibility I wanted. Noah is just everywhere.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 12/02/2023 10:59

You mention popularity but you don’t say how important it is to you to avoid it. Noah is very very popular but the popularity spike was recent so in a middle school you will only start to encounter the Noahs in the next couple of years. As it’s relatively near the start of its wave there are a lot more Noahs to come in the next ten years or so.

I love Isaac but I couldn’t live with the misspellings. They would drive me insane. ‘I suck’ is not a thing and exists only in the imaginations of MNers.

I love Kit as a diminutive but it’s not a full given name to me.

I really like pp’s suggestion of Zachary. Your choices also made me think of Elijah.

Noah

fruitandfibreg · 12/02/2023 11:51

My fave was Kit until I got to your DD name (which I love!) I just do think Kit and Dottie go together they're just too different vibes.

I'd prob go for Issac. I've got a 14 month old and haven't any

MotherOfHouseplants · 12/02/2023 12:19

Dottie and Kit sounds like a twee children’s clothing brand.

Isaac would be my choice if you can put up with no-one being able to spell it.

Derrymum123 · 12/02/2023 12:21

Isaac.

Thatboymum · 12/02/2023 12:23

Kit is absolutely awful when I read it I found myself saying have yourself a Kit Kat 😂 I like Noah my friends kid is called that but I disliked it when you said youd call him Ned because where I’m from that’s not something you’d want to be referenced after,

DuchessOfSausage · 12/02/2023 12:42

Isaac

Brumchum · 12/02/2023 12:44

Isaac is a beautiful name.

ItsaStupidSillyThing · 12/02/2023 12:47

I like Isaac, dislike Kit and Noah.

ItsaStupidSillyThing · 12/02/2023 12:50

'Kit is absolutely awful when I read it I found myself saying have yourself a Kit Kat 😂'

🤣 I think some people have used Kit after a certain actor, and it is somewhat of a trend. I think it's awful.
Ned reminds me of Ned Flanders from the Simpsons!

BornAgainViper · 12/02/2023 12:51

Isaac

Pinkdafodils · 12/02/2023 13:11

Kit is used for sports stuff - have you packed your sports kit, kit Grin

gemloving · 12/02/2023 13:15

Kit will always be female to me due to Kit de Luca in Pretty Women.

I would prefer the other two popular names.

Pinkdafodils · 12/02/2023 13:20

I know a Kitty (Katherine) who gets called Kit often

itssquidstella · 12/02/2023 13:31

I love Isaac.

Kit is great but I wouldn't have it as a standalone name, I'd put Christopher on the BC.

There's nothing wrong with Noah but it's booooooring - I know about a million.

Pinkdafodils · 12/02/2023 13:33

I'd put Christopher on the BC.

But surely that shortens to Chris??

itssquidstella · 12/02/2023 13:36

@Pinkdafodils commonly, yes, but Kit is a very old nickname - Christopher 'Kit' Marlowe, for example.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 12/02/2023 13:51

Pinkdafodils · 12/02/2023 13:33

I'd put Christopher on the BC.

But surely that shortens to Chris??

Christopher is rather like Elizabeth insofar as it has multiple diminutives: Chris, Kit, Topher, Chip, Kester, etc. Kit can also be a diminutive for Christian / Kristian.

Rosecherry · 12/02/2023 14:05

Noah or Isaac I really like from your
boys names list.
Noah Edward sounds a great name !! :)

I have not heard the name Kit before.
I thought straight away it was short for Kitty or Kirsty girls names. Tho I guess it could be for girl/boy name.

Idea - 'Noah Isaac' could be as the first & middle name :)

TheOriginalEmu · 12/02/2023 14:07

Pinkdafodils · 12/02/2023 13:33

I'd put Christopher on the BC.

But surely that shortens to Chris??

It can shorten to loads of things, I know Christopher’s called Chris, Chrissy, Christy, Topher, Toph, Kit…there is no one short version of a name.

DramaAlpaca · 12/02/2023 15:27

I like Kit very much.

I have a strong dislike for both Isaac and Noah.

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/02/2023 16:14

Issac

Too many Noahs and too many Kits (which is too cutsy as a full name - like if you’d just called your daughter Dottie)
