Satin or True

lonelypigorfitflea · 05/02/2023 09:44

I like both.

Obviously I like unusual themes of names

Which if you had to, would you go with?

For a baby girl

H likes:

Hannah
Athena
Helena
Serena

I think they're all just not to my taste!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

The only 2 Satins I can think of (apart from a black pony I used to know) are Satin in Nana by Emile Zola, and Satine in Moulin Rouge. Both prostitutes, which might not be offputting but a lot of people would make the connection.

True as satin is close to satan

Say what?

Heartsandbirds · 05/02/2023 11:21

Satin makes me think of bathroom paint.

Heavydirtysou1 · 05/02/2023 11:21

Allegra or Athena are great
Satin just feels too much like obviously a material and a girly material at that. I'm not keen on names that have connotations you can't shift
True just isn't a name, I'm sorry. There are so many other unusual names to consider
What about Sasha? Imogen? Celeste?

Honestly, OP, either is fine; I think one brand of sanitary pad is actually just as good as another these days.

typopro · 05/02/2023 11:35

Are these serious choices for baby names? Seriously? 🤦‍♀️

🤣

StarsSand · 05/02/2023 11:40

Satin is a sex worker name.

True and all the others are fine, choose what you like.

eurochick · 05/02/2023 11:44

You know you are naming an actual person, right?

I think your hormones are doing a number on you. Go with one of your husband's suggestions.

BubziOwl · 05/02/2023 11:46

I love a PP's suggestion of Allegra. Fab name!

VerveClique · 05/02/2023 11:51

Neither.

Listen to your DH.

Also loads of lovely suggestions here.

Marius and Helen
Marius and Serena
Marius and Saffron
Marius and Trudy
Marius and Hannah

Roseyposeypudding · 05/02/2023 13:41

Athena, Helena and Serena are beautiful 🥰

True is 100% Kardashian (literally the name of Khloe Kardashian’s child) and Satin isn’t a name or even a particularly nice sounding word

garlictwist · 05/02/2023 14:09

Satin sounds like a brand of bog roll or a paint colour.

True makes me think of wheels.

So it's a no from me.

hryllilegur · 05/02/2023 14:12

I agree with all the people who think it sounds like a choice between two paint finishes or sanitary towel brands or underwear styles or something.

Will I call my child extra absorbent or with wings?

Koala3d · 05/02/2023 14:14

Satin and True both sound like tampon brands

And yes, other virtue names are much better than True:
Verity
Hope
Honor
Constance
Faith

All beautiful

clpsmum · 05/02/2023 14:23

I like true

gettingalifttothestation · 05/02/2023 14:25

All terrible. Serena is ok but sienna is much nicer. Satin and true are a joke

Pallisers · 05/02/2023 14:26

I love Athena. I know a girl called Athena Sunflower (she doesn't really use her middle name but it is lovely knowing it is there)

Berlinlover · 05/02/2023 14:28

Both are hideous, I can’t believe anyone would seriously consider naming their child either of these names.

4thonthe4th · 05/02/2023 14:28

You choices sound like sanitary towel brands. Don’t do it.

MajorCarolDanvers · 05/02/2023 14:30

Satin and True are bloody awful.

Your DH names are great. Especially Hannah and Helena.

KirstenBlest · 05/02/2023 14:32

They sound like intimate hygiene or lubricant products
