Satin or True

I like both.

Obviously I like unusual themes of names

Which if you had to, would you go with?

For a baby girl

H likes:

Hannah
Athena
Helena
Serena

I think they're all just not to my taste!

And yes, other virtue names are much better than True:
Verity
Hope
Honor
Constance
Faith
…

Please choose one of your husband’s choices!! Those are terrible

DrMarciaFieldstone · 05/02/2023 10:09

DH’s choices are lovely.

BridieConvert · 05/02/2023 10:14

Sorry but they're both awful!
I love Marius - unusual but somehow still classic, so a name of a similar vein would be my choice. Cosette is jumping out at me obviously because of the Les mis connection!!
Colette is a nice compromise.
Out of your H's choices I like Athena the best :)

SlicerAndEcho · 05/02/2023 10:15

I was not expecting this to be a baby name thread… 😂😂

BubziOwl · 05/02/2023 10:16

I really don't think either of your picks are good ones, I'm sorry. Satin is just an odd name and too close to Satan.

True sounds like you are too into Khloe Kardashian. Even without that association, I dislike it as a name choice. I actually really like virtue names, and so I'd feel better about "Truth" than "True". Although if you go for Truth, you may as well just go for Ruth which is a gorgeous name.

Your husband's names are better, I'd probably go for Serena out of those but Athena is nice too, though I don't think it works as well in the U.K. as it does abroad.

BubziOwl · 05/02/2023 10:17

Oh, and I'd add that Marius is a lovely name!

IAmcuriousyellow · 05/02/2023 10:17

You could have Satin if your other child was called Matt

How about Corduroy?

LadyOfTheCanyon · 05/02/2023 10:26

Lordy. How do people with such different sensibilities get together in the first place?

Athena gets my vote. Or Serena.

EmpressaurusOfWitchesBackFromTheDead · 05/02/2023 10:26

I’d say Satin for a cat, assuming it had smooth glossy fur, and True for a dog.

DemBonesDemBones · 05/02/2023 10:28

I really like True but Satin doesn't sound like a name to me. It actually makes me think of Stalin Confused

Bobshhh · 05/02/2023 10:28

Eggshell

I'd trust your husband on this one.

DemBonesDemBones · 05/02/2023 10:29

And also statin which is medication...

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/02/2023 10:50

This brings us neatly back to last week ends thread about Nights in White Satin.

If it's the meaning of "truth" you like, then Verity?

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/02/2023 10:58

Sorry op, I’m another one with your DH on this (by quite some margin…) Satin is not a name. It’s not even a nice fabric, it’s cheap, and shiny. And True? Poor girl would be explaining that Every. Single. Day. How to spell, what it’s short for.. just no.

Whataretheodds · 05/02/2023 11:04

My first thought was they sound like brands of paint or sanitary towel.

Serena, Verity (means truth) ot Satina as a PP suggested

Johnnysgirl · 05/02/2023 11:05

Listen to your husband... Seriously.

123youandme · 05/02/2023 11:06

I really like True but I think Satin reminds me a but too much like Satan.

BungleandGeorge · 05/02/2023 11:11

I’d go with Athena as I think it’s pretty uncommon but recognisable. Your husbands other choices are nice but not unusual

bananamilkshakes · 05/02/2023 11:12

I like statin

wyntersuhn · 05/02/2023 11:13

Both terrible, be guided by your husband!

bussteward · 05/02/2023 09:51

Satin or True sounds like you’re deciding between flooring varnish finishes.

Genius 😂😂😂
