Posie & Dexter. Maybe strike a deal whereby he names the child if it's a boy and you name it if it's a girl?

Mumofgirls2017 · 29/01/2023 08:52

I like Polly, Posie, Penelope, Kit and Spencer

Luredbyapomegranate · 29/01/2023 08:59

You have to come to some sort of agreement - can you get one of the naming apps? they do work.

posie - it's too babyish for a full name, but nice as a nn for any Rose name.

penelope - fine
sunny - it's a bit daft, and difficult for a girl because most Sonnys are boys
violet - nice
and vada - it's a bit James bond but OK
( middle name would be iris )

sonny - it's a bit daft
Spencer - it's a bit estate agent but OK
Kit - fine
bodhi - ludicrous
maverick - possibly even more ludicrous, and a heavy burden
artie - Arthur for full name. He may not want to sound like a clown
sheldon - I don't like it but nothing wrong with it
joey - call him Joseph as a full time. He isn't a baby kangaroo
Dexter - OK
( middle name Jack or Arthur depending on name chose )

Rauha · 29/01/2023 09:01

I like:

Violet
Vada

Spencer
Artie

HiImTheProblemItsMe · 29/01/2023 09:21

I like Penelope and Dexter best from the lists.
I don't know if one of you likes more nickname-y names and other more traditional (I feel that could be the case looking at your options), but if so then I'd look for a longer version of one of your shorter names that you both like. Arthur seems like a clear frontrunner since you have both Artie and Arthur as a middle name. Josephine nn Posie, Susanna nn Sunny, Christopher nn Kit, Joseph or Jonah nn Joey. Maybe something like that could help you find a compromise?

Fivebeanchilli · 29/01/2023 10:27

polly - I adore Polly. It's feisty and pretty and smart. Polly Iris is a great name.
posie - meh. It's a bit babyish and it's too floral with Iris. Josie would be better.
penelope - this will be the highest rising girls' name in the last couple of years surely. It's so popular. I don't hate it or love it. I like Nell as a nn
sunny - dreadful sorry. Also too descriptive with Iris.
violet - lovely name but not with Iris.
and vada - ok
( middle name would be iris )

Polly Iris is stunning. Josie or Penelope are nice too.

sonny - not keen.
Spencer - it's ok. I can't really get past Marks and Spencer
Kit - I love this.
bodhi - awful sorry
maverick - even worse - sorry
artie - ok as a nn for Arthur
sheldon - not keen. Too associated with Sheldon Cooper
joey - ok as a nn for Joseph or Josiah or Joel
Dexter - not keen
( middle name Jack or Arthur depending on name chose )

I would go for Kit Arthur personally or Arthur Jack nn Artie as second choice

CharitySchmarity · 29/01/2023 10:36

I only really like Polly, Penelope, Kit (but would possibly use Christopher as the official version) and Joey (but would definitely use Joseph as the official version and probably Joe for short when he was older). I'm neutral about Violet, Spencer and Dexter, and the rest are not really my thing.

watcherintherye · 29/01/2023 10:47

Of all the names in the world, surely there must be a couple you can agree on?!!

EyesOnThePies · 29/01/2023 10:52

TrappedOverseas · 29/01/2023 06:36

No way would I agree to that system if there was a chance I could end up with a Maverick!

FayCarew · 29/01/2023 11:08

Darth Vada?
Sunny is more of a nickname. Posie a bit too twee for me.

Sonny, Artie and Joey are a bit nicknaney.
Spencer, Sheldon and Dexter are ok
Kit is trendy and a bit insubstantial
Bodhi and Maverick are dreadful.

lljkk · 29/01/2023 11:33

You do have same taste in names imho.

More quirky & unusual:

boy
Lachlan, Stuart, Treymore, Taymar, Carter, Anthony, Graham, Mikhael, Vladimir

girl
Nelly, Aleesha, Taymar, Alessandra, Trina, Hilda, Antonia, Persephone, Ariadne, Edna, Raquel, Daisy, Lupe

Icanbuymyselfflowers · 29/01/2023 11:37

@EyesOnThePies I agree 😂😂

sunny- would be mistaken for a bot (Sonny) or told to smile more

vada- would be called Darth Vader.

The other girls names are fine

Kit- best name on your list

bodhi- not a fan and will date badly imo

maverick - Is your h a Top Gun fan ? This is the worst boy's name on your list imo.

sheldon - I know that kids are unlikely to know Sheldon Cooper but adults will comment if your son is at all like him.

joey - love Joseph and Joe too

Icanbuymyselfflowers · 29/01/2023 11:47

Yes I really dislike both maverick and bodhi.

my Names were
sonny Arthur
Dexter Jack
kit Arthur
Spencer

my girls were
polly iris
Penelope iris
Posie iris ( for family reasons )

I also had pearl which I forgot to add

the rest are his 🤦‍♀️

Whoever is the one who suggested Sheldon should be disqualified and the other one picks the name.

I don't like the last 3 girls names.
For a boy I like sonny, Bodhi & artie .

Sorry I didn't mean to just send what I sent before. I'm new to this app🤣

Icanbuymyselfflowers · 29/01/2023 11:58

@Elsanore 😂😂 when he started and got as far as shelf on maverick and Bodhi I knew I was in trouble !!

I like violet and vada. And sonny, kit and joey.

DipperandMabel · 29/01/2023 13:16

I think Penelope, Polly and Joey (better as Joseph) are the best names, however I do like more traditional names.

Bodhi is awful. Maverick is cringe. And Sheldon is too associated with Sheldon Cooper. If you don’t agree with any of those names no one should have to settle, keep looking at names. Maybe you both might like nature names (ie Willow or Rowan) for example

TitoMojito · 29/01/2023 13:29

polly - no
posie - BIG no
penelope - Good
sunny - no
violet - Good
vada - meh

sonny - meh
Spencer - Good
Kit - no
bodhi - meh
maverick - Definitely not omg I hate this name so much lol
artie - meh
sheldon - no
joey - Good
Dexter - Good

Me and my husband had this as a "bet". I was convinced we were having a boy and he was convinced it was a girl so the "winner" got naming rights.
We had a girl and I would've never forgiven him if I didn't actually get a say in the name! 😂

BridieConvert · 29/01/2023 17:49

I can't help you narrow this down I'm afraid because none of them are to my taste!
We also had very few names we agreed on then a week or so before I went into labour we were watching tv and the name of a character jumped out at both of us and that was it! (Nothing out there - her name is Erin ☺️)
