Thanks to everyone who responded to my other thread (on the name Ella). We’ve now narrowed down our list to the names below.

Which one would you pick?

Elsie
Eliza
Ella (this was our original favourite but getting cold feet)
Phoebe
Zoe

Also like Elena. How would you pronounce this? Eh-lay-na? Eh-len-ah? Another way?

TIA

I would use Ella- it's beautiful
Then Eliza- also a great name.

I only know one Elena and she says it Eh-lay-na so I would probably guess that first but I personally, wouldn't use a name that gets pronounced lots of different ways

Rauha · 27/01/2023 16:00

I like Eliza

Viviennemary · 27/01/2023 16:02

I like Elsie best. The others are all ok though.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 27/01/2023 16:03

I only like Zoe from your list. But I do like Fenella and you could use Ella as a nickname.

LaLuz7 · 27/01/2023 16:04

What's wrong with Ella? Timeless and pretty.

I would go for Gabriella, nn Ella

17caterpillars1mouse · 27/01/2023 16:05

Phoebe or Ella. I would avoid Elsie

RedDoughnut · 27/01/2023 16:07

I know an Ella and she is really cool.
Shes amazing at archery.

Use Ella!

Elsie Or Eliza

Twoinapod · 27/01/2023 16:18

Elsie is beautiful, go with that.
ella and phoebe are nice, quite popular if that bothers you.
don’t like Eliza
Zoe is awful.

Twoinapod · 27/01/2023 16:20

Elena I would say El-eh-na

sunshinesobeautiful · 27/01/2023 16:30

I like Zoe best. It's beautiful, not as common as the others, and means 'life'
Elena I'd intuitively say as Eh-LEN-ah.

mathanxiety · 27/01/2023 16:37

I like Ella best from your list.

I'd pronounce Elena El-LAY-na.

ShillyShallySherbet · 27/01/2023 16:39

I admit I rolled my eyes at all the names beginning with El… as they’re just so unoriginal. I like Phoebe and Zoe though, both lovely.

ShillyShallySherbet · 27/01/2023 16:39

I’d pronounce Elena like Eleanor

Madcats · 27/01/2023 16:46

I have a teen "Phoebe" - you would be surprised how many people can't spell her name correctly.

With Eliza, I would be more inclined to choose Elizabeth so that she can go by the names Eliza/Liz/Liza/Beth/Betty

FWIW I would probably pronounce Elena as El-Lay-na (especially if you have mainland European heritage), though I did go to uni with a very posh English EL-len-ah.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 27/01/2023 16:55

Elsie - no. I do quite like old school/granny chic names (my DD has one!) but this is a bit too old lady for me.
Eliza - nice
Ella - nice but slightly overused now
Phoebe - nice
Zoe - nice

Elena I adore and I would pronounce it e-LAY-na. Gorgeous name. I also know a little girl called Laina which I think it very pretty and quite unusual.

Yep same, so many girl ‘El’ names.

I love Phoebe or Zoe, much more interesting!

Hankthehonk · 27/01/2023 17:07

These are all nice names, the only reason I wouldn't consider Ella is because it's so common. Otherwise it would probably be on our list. I like Zoe best of your options

BlueSuffragette · 27/01/2023 17:08

Ella, Eliza - both lovely
Elsie not keen on it.
Others, sorry don't like them.

rolc · 27/01/2023 17:24

Zoe

cptartapp · 27/01/2023 17:26

Prefer Zoe.
Ella is so wet.
Not keen on the others especially Elsie but like the letters rejigged as Elise.

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/01/2023 17:34

Zoe - really like this
Elena
Phoebe

Elena is sometimes just el-en-ah (sane as Eleanor) or sometimes uh-LEN-ah (Mediterranean/Greek?) or sometimes uh-LAIN-ah (E Europe?), which is why I’d probably spell it Eleanor.

DuchessOfSausage · 27/01/2023 17:39

Elsie - don't like it, but like Elsa
Eliza - not keen
Ella - ok but blends into all the Ellies and Ellas
Phoebe - ok , don't like Phoebs, some people will struggle with the spelling
Zoe - like
Elena - Eh-LAY-na/Eh-LEN-ah/EH-lin-na? Does it matter - she'll be an Ellie or Ella

Mumofgirls2017 · 28/01/2023 08:15

Eliza!

ButterflySmitten · 28/01/2023 08:28

Eliza or Zoe
