Thanks to everyone who responded to my other thread (on the name Ella). We’ve now narrowed down our list to the names below.

Which one would you pick?

Elsie
Eliza
Ella (this was our original favourite but getting cold feet)
Phoebe
Zoe

Also like Elena. How would you pronounce this? Eh-lay-na? Eh-len-ah? Another way?

TIA

Eliza

StampOnTheGround · 28/01/2023 08:38

Ella, Elsie or Eliza

tired40 · 28/01/2023 08:48

DD is a Gabrielle. She has many choices for nicknames.

AnotherNameChangeYes · 28/01/2023 10:21

I find Elsie so popular it’s boring and I don’t like Ella.

How about Elise? I know an Elise and she’s so cool.

I like Zoe. Only know adult Zoe’s so it would be nice to hear it again.

Again put off by Phoebe because of how common it is.

BridieConvert · 28/01/2023 18:16

I say Ella or Elsie

I would pronounce Elena El-ee-nah but I seem to be in a minority with that!

Daisybuttercup12345 · 16/04/2023 22:29

Our niece is Elena.
El en a

DedicatedFollowerOfFashion84 · 16/04/2023 22:31

I know one Elena and hers is El-ain-ah (hopefully that’s clear 🤣)
Ive only met the one though.

Pemba · 16/04/2023 22:44

Zoe is beautiful and timeless, Eliza is lovely too.

Quite like Phoebe and Ella too (although Ella is very popular, maybe that's what put you off?)

Elsie is the only one I don't like, very old-ladyish. Elise is nice though, as a pp suggested. Or Elsa.

Pemba · 16/04/2023 22:47

Oh Elena is quite nice too, I would automatically say El- AY-nuh but I am aware there are alternative pronunciations.

jamsandwich1 · 16/04/2023 22:47

Eliza

fairycupcakes · 16/04/2023 22:56

I really like Zoë! I feel like this is quite uncommon.

Elena I would pronounce EH leh na
If you like Eh LAY na you could always spell it Elaina? - there would be no confusion with pronunciation as it’s literally Elaine with an a instead of e :)

fairycupcakes · 16/04/2023 22:56

Also you might like to consider Elise?

DipperandMabel · 16/04/2023 23:02

Elsie - Quite cutesy, might not be well-liked as a teen
Eliza - I like this but I would put Elizabeth on the birth certificate and use Eliza as a nickname
Ella (this was our original favourite but getting cold feet) - I like this too, popular but that wouldn’t put me off
Phoebe - not so keen, honestly can only think of Phoebe Buffay
Zoe - I like this one the best

Elena - I would pronounce as El - ay - na. Not so keen on this name.

Wetnwindy · 16/04/2023 23:04

Elsie or Elena

Awrite · 16/04/2023 23:06

You have good taste in names.

Eliza tops the list for me.

With Elena, I think I prefer Eh-len-ah.

Mumofgirls2017 · 17/04/2023 10:17

Eliza

Crunchymum · 17/04/2023 10:55

Elsie - too frilly
Eliza - my personal fave
Ella (this was our original favourite but getting cold feet) - nice but feels a bit incomplete to me
Phoebe - okay
Zoe - second fave

Sadiegirl87 · 17/04/2023 14:35

I really like Phoebe it was on our list.
I would say if Ella is your favourite name then I would go for it, who cares if it's a bit more popular, doesn't necessarily mean she'll come across another one as there are so many varied names these days. Why should your daughter be denied the name because other people have used it too

ItsCalledAConversation · 17/04/2023 14:56

That Ella thread was absolutely legendary. You simply have to call your child (Umbr)Ella now.

Skybluepinky · 17/04/2023 15:24

Ella is over used and now is a common dogs name as well.
Any of the others r fine.

Opalie · 17/04/2023 16:26

Love Elena. With the LAY sound, like the German pronunciation of Helena. Lena and Leni as nicknames also have the long A. I suppose it's like Alaina/Laini/Lainey.

I would go for Elena with the nickname Leni personally.

If not that, then Eliza.

shoopshoopdedoo · 17/04/2023 21:38

Love Zoe and Phoebe. Also like Elena (I’d think it was pronounced Eh-lay-na).

asndeorno · 18/04/2023 14:06

Elsie - pretty
Eliza - also pretty
Ella - lovely name but extremely common, there would probably be at least one other in her class
Phoebe - nice name, quite common
Zoe - beautiful. My favourite of your list.
Elena - I would pronounce it El-en-ah but I did know an el-ee-nah

LimitMyScreenTime · 18/04/2023 23:09

Elena like on the vampire diaries... El-lay-na

shadowchancesassy · 18/04/2023 23:18

Phoebe
