Imogen or Maeve - Help!

Hi All,

Would love some help trying to decide between these two girls names (our first daughter is Cora):

Maeve- I know it is getting popular but is it a passing trend name?

Imogen (nn Immie)- We do love this name but is it too bland?!

Maeve definitely! It’s not at all popular where I live, and I work in Early Years and a primary school.

Imogen is a nice enough name but “Immy” isn’t, and it’s very “private school” (I often work in one, “Immys” are ten a penny).

I prefer Imogen, it has more nn options, Immie, Mo, Gen
Maeve is rising sharply and I think could become quite dated in a few years

I like both but prefer Maeve. I know a few Imogen's / Immy's but I've never met a Maeve

Imogen. I love it. I think it’s such a shame when it gets shortened to Immy as Imogen is such a beautiful name. It means ‘maiden’.

Imogen unless you’re Irish, in which case Maeve.

Imogen 100%. I prefer Mo to Immy but generally feel nn shouldn't be too prescriptive anyway - with Imogen there are a range that might feel right when she's here.

I've never personally liked Maeve.

Maeve. I do like Imogen but Immy is dreadful, never mind Mo and Gen.

I like imogen but hate Immy. Every Imogen I know is called Immy.

Maeve is lovely. I guess the only shortening would be V.

Maeve! I find Imogen a bit bland, whereas Maeve kicks ass and takes names. (Not sure how a name would go about that, now I come to think about it... but anyway it's great.)

I think Imogen is of irish origin btw to the poster who says ",,imogen unless you're irish".

It came form inghean meaning young girl.

I love both of those, I don't think you can go wrong but I think if you're worried about popularity Maeve is more of a risk... It's risen sharply recent.

I just wanted to say I LOVE the name Cora too!

I don't like the name Imogen at all but I love the name Maeve. I wouldn't care about its rise in popularity or not. She was a warrior queen and the name means "the intoxicating one” or “she who rules" which I'd love for my DD!

And yes, Cora is also a fab name!
