Is the name Emily still popular these days?

My and dh are starting to really like the name Emily but i am curious to know if it is still popular, the ONS website says it is number 21 on the top 100 names which is still quite mainstream i guess but i recall the name having a few years of mega popularity about 20 years ago so i'd expect most Emily's to be 13+ now.

Do you know any little Emilys? Does it feel dated?
This is my first child so i don't really know what names are popular especially because it varies depending on where you live.

Any Middle name suggestions would be helpful too.

I know one Emilie aged 8 and there was one Emily in my class so she'd be 44 now... Both very nice people.

I wouldn't say its a name that dates really, it's a classic.

Our daughter is Emily 😁

I call her ems or emmy though. I don't know many people who live around us who have also called their child Emily. (9)

My daughter is Emily. She is a wonderful happy teenager.

We are in a French speaking country and Emilie is still a popular name.

There are a couple of Emily’s at my son’s nursery. I don’t think it’s dated or mega popular, just a classic name that hasn’t gone away. It’s a solid choice that is unlikely to ever sound really dated.

The Darkgreener website is a really good one if you’re interested in name trends. It uses ONS data on baby names from England and Wales since 1996.

names.darkgreener.com/#emily

So using the Darkgreener website you can see that, while Emily is still relatively popular, it’s been steadily declining in popularity over the last 20 years or so.

Our daughter was very nearly an Emily.

We didnt call her it as loads of babies around that time were called that and we didnt want her to be one of many in her class at school. It turns out she went all through primary and high school with no Emily's in her year.

Ive work in early years for the last 3 years and only have had 2 and they are both 4.

I know dozens of Emilys including my sister and one of my BFFS and a huge swath of school mums and colleagues. All aged from teens to 40s. Don't know any younger than 13.

It is a popular name for a reason. Classic and beautiful.

We know about the 10 Emilys - it's been sooo popular over the past 20 years!

At least 3 are called Emily Rose... 🥱

I have an Emily she's 11. When we named her we didn't know any little Emilys, just a few adult ones. There's one other in her large primary school.

It's a name that's often described on MN as boring, but I couldn't give a monkeys. It's a lovely, classic name.

I have an Emily. She's 8 and we rarely come across another one. She's never been in a class with another Emily (through nursery and two different schools).

I agree! Anything that’s relatively popular / classic can be deemed boring tbf.

OP we have a 4 year old Emily. I know one other her age.
