Classic but not super common boys name

I like the sound and vibe of the name Alexander, but would prefer something less common. It doesn’t need to be really rare- I’d prefer it if everyone has heard of it. Something where there’s less likely to be lots in the class. Without meaning to offend others, not keen on names I think of as more trend-led/of the moment like Arlo/Albie/ Roman. Not keen on what I’d think of as cheeky chappy names like Ronnie/Alfie. Not keen on more 80s names I see suggested on theses forums like Simon/Peter/Thomas. Names like Vincent/Felix/Quentin bit too left -field for me. Like Laurence but can’t use.
If you didn’t die of boredom reading that, please help !

We have an Owen.

SilverOtter · 06/12/2022 18:57

I have a Corin. It's a name that features in Shakespeare, so definitely not modern, but I've never met another one so far!

wishing3 · 06/12/2022 18:58

Andrew is nice. I agree with your logic. Maybe feels weird as we have an Andrew in friendship group. Not so keen on shortening’s. Hmm, it’s on the maybe like!

Nice name but despite not being common I have 2 friends with an Owen so don’t think I would.

OH likes Jonah but I’m not keen.

It’s OK, as long as you can be sure he won’t want to join the navy.

Wibbly1008 · 06/12/2022 19:00

Alec…..it’s a derivative of Alexander

Thanks- it’s a lovely name but a friend has a female Corinne so I think when I hear it I think of the female version.

I’ve worked in childcare for the last 20 years and have only met 2 andrews, so pp could be on to something!

Use the ONS data! Look at the list of baby names from last year and pick something outside the top 20/top 50 depending on your taste.
