Charli for a girl?

rmonroe8 · 02/12/2022 16:25

I have met about 2 female Charlies in the past but they spelt it "charley" but I'm not particularly keen on that spelling

Is Charli spelt this way nice for a girl?

It seems more feminine than Charlie or Charley to me

Reminds me of Charolais cows

Grin I'll never be able to unread that.
Someone said Efa (Evvah) would get said as heifer, so there's the middle name

lollyloo88 · 02/12/2022 18:37

Yeah sorry OP it's chavvy.. she would always have to tell people "my name is charli but without the e on the end" it would make her feel silly or at least irritated when people are constantly responding "oh right.."

Dmsandfloatydress · 02/12/2022 18:40

Charli is downmarket and you would be doing her a disservice. Like it or not people judge others by their name. Ive heard horrid comments at the school gate about children with perceived to be downmarket or uniquely spelt names. Please do her a favour and call her Charlotte on her birth certificate but refer to her as Charlie . Then she won't be encumbered by your unwise choices. Sorry!

InTheFutilityRoomEatingBiscuits · 02/12/2022 18:41

To me it looks like it would be pronounced differently.

Like Charl-ih
rather than Charl-ee

ohidoliketobe · 02/12/2022 18:46

Speaking from personal experience. Please don't lumber you child with a 'unique' spelling. Especially a vowel ending to an 'i'. It is honestly a daily misery trying to spell it out, and I go by my middle name professionally as my first name is difficult to spell, diminutive, and quite frankly - chavvy.

LimeCheesecake · 02/12/2022 18:49

I have the not popular spelling of a common name. (I have a foreign spelling), it’s a bloody nightmare.

as others have said, I’d go with Charlotte known as Charli/Charlie - leave it up to her how to spell it.

Purplemagnolias · 02/12/2022 20:14

thought Charles was a boys' name.

But this thread isn't about the boys names Charles at all Confused Grin

It's about the name Charli/Charlie, often used as a nickname for Charlotte or Carlotta.

Op, I think it's cute but would probably use Charlotte Grace, nickname Charli

midsomermurderess · 02/12/2022 21:30

Charli, with a ❤️ for the I. Cute🙃

Trees6 · 02/12/2022 21:33

Charley is my favourite spelling. I think it’s a cool name. 😎

Untitledsquatboulder · 02/12/2022 21:42

Spelt like that it just looks illiterate. Nice name though, just needs an "e" or a "y".

olympicsrock · 03/12/2022 12:53

It’s chavtastic I’m afraid

Rauha · 03/12/2022 12:59

No, I don't like it

LaLuz7 · 03/12/2022 13:12

Don't give your daughter a typo for a name. It's stupid and cruel.

babysgotthespends · 04/12/2022 10:46

Not a fan tbh.

CaptainCastillo · 04/12/2022 14:48

Sorry, but I have to agree with everyone else, It would be better to call her Charlotte (nn Charli) or just Charlie. Charli will always be spelled wrong, maybe pronounced wrong and I don't think anyone would like to have to explain their name to everyone they meet every single day.

CaptainCastillo · 04/12/2022 14:50

I understand why you like Charli though, Its actually cute Imo, but as I already said, It would be so annoying for her.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 07/12/2022 17:15

Chavvy as a full name with -ie. Beyond chavvy with just an i. Another vote for Charlotte here.

youcantry · 07/12/2022 18:21

No it just looks like you forgot the 'e'. My goddaughter is Charlotte but known as Charlie. I doubt that she would like it spelt wrong!

RambamThankyouMam · 07/12/2022 18:33

Chavvi

IDontWantToBeAPie · 07/12/2022 19:42

I know a few Charli's in their 20s. It's ok.

DurdleSnore · 08/12/2022 07:12

Charlotte Grace. Solid name. Then you can create and spell a nickname however you wish.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 08/12/2022 07:19

I am a teacher and have taught a couple of girls called Charli. They always complained about people spelling their name incorrectly.

It's not like something like Abbie or Abi or Vicky or Vicki, where both spellings are fairly common.

urbanbuddha · 08/12/2022 07:26

Charlie, short for Charlotte gets my vote.

Bubbles2692 · 09/12/2022 18:59

When people say about future jobs it really annoys me, I actually think a more unique name stands out against all the common names. They aren’t just going to toss a cv aside because the name isn’t traditional 🙄 and if they do, what a boring company to work for! My little girl is called Billie and I love it 😊

Gingersnappy · 09/12/2022 20:13

i think it's cute 😊
