Charli for a girl?

I have met about 2 female Charlies in the past but they spelt it "charley" but I'm not particularly keen on that spelling

Is Charli spelt this way nice for a girl?

It seems more feminine than Charlie or Charley to me

Middle name will be Grace

One of my old school friends spells her name charli, I love it.

Choconut · 02/12/2022 16:31

Noooooo as I said on a thread earlier, spelling a name in a 'younique' way and putting an i on the end of it always screams chav and makes it sound like a stripper name.
What about calling her Charlotte and then having Charli spelt however you like as her nn. Charlotte Grace sounds lovely too.

toastofthetown · 02/12/2022 16:31

It looks like a typo for Charlie to me.

FunctionalSkills · 02/12/2022 16:32

Fine as a nickname but really not as a full name no.

Agree. It looks like the e on the keypad didn't work, or as if you're trying to sound exotic.

potchy · 02/12/2022 16:41

I'd assume you'd spelled it wrong.

Charlie is nice though.

GlassDeli · 02/12/2022 16:55

I've met a couple of female Charlies and there's also Charlie Dimmock, so am used to thinking of it as a unisex name. Charli seems unfinished and I'd wonder if it was pronounced Sharly.

MerryChristmasToYou · 02/12/2022 17:03

I know a couple of girl Charlies, but the Charli spelling is awful.

spiderlight · 02/12/2022 17:03

It looks a bit incomplete to me, and the 'ie' ending looks softer. I'd have Charlotte on the birth certificate, though, so she has more options when she's older.

strawberry2017 · 02/12/2022 17:11

Charlie is a much nicer spelling.

VejaVagVagina · 02/12/2022 17:12

Ugh, how unoriginal, everyone saying it's a nickname. I think having Charlie/Charley/Charli as a name by itself is acceptable (which it most certainly is according to name websites).

I'm not keen on the "-i" ending though personally.

Ohmygoshposh · 02/12/2022 17:15

I prefer Charlie

Chuckiegg · 02/12/2022 17:16

Name is nice but will be spelt wrong her whole life.

This. Would you be happy to set her up for a lifetime of 'actually, there's no e on the end'?

I knew a Charli Grace once - it’s fine to spell it this was and yes it does look more ‘feminine’

Charlotte Grace would be nicer imo though with nn Charli (she’d also have Lottie available to her then aswell)

fairycupcakes · 02/12/2022 17:28

this way *

heymammy · 02/12/2022 17:28

Just spell it Charlie ffs, no need for a "feminine" spelling

TheShellBeach · 02/12/2022 17:29

I thought Charles was a boys' name.

toastofthetown · 02/12/2022 17:39

TheShellBeach · 02/12/2022 17:29

I thought Charles was a boys' name.

It is. But you’re the first poster to mention the name Charles.

iloveorange · 02/12/2022 17:43

You know the TV show 'Anne with an E'? An adaptation of Anne of Green Gables - the girls spends quite a lot of time clarifying to everyone and their mother that her name ends in E. Because everyone spells it without it.

So your child would the opposite. Charli. Without an E.

BeautifulDragon · 02/12/2022 17:55

I would call her Charlotte.

Far better when she's applying for jobs and her professional life in general.

Charli is fine for a WhatsApp sign off, not so much for a work email etc.

Blocked · 02/12/2022 17:57

Reminds me of Charolais cows

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/12/2022 18:30

It’s nice short for Charlotte, not so much on its own

That's a lot of aggression for someone you don't know who may name her baby a certain thing. Confused
