The name Erin, I dislike it, it is my wrongness

I have a problem with the name Erin. It does something strange to me. Objectively it is a normal kind of name but when I hear it, it makes my scalp tingle. I know this my fault; I have nothing against the name. Does anyone else have this kind of thing? I don't mean like when people say the name Margot reminds them of maggots. I have no time for that nonsense. This is a visceral thing.

Ye Gods, how is this even a discussion?

Gormless Ben was the worst Walton. Come on, people!

JaneJeffer · 22/11/2022 14:34

Nah @MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake Jason was a drip

Synaesthesia is fascinating. I don't have it but my son does. We didn't realise until he was about 9, but when he was younger he used to come out with all sorts of random questions. I remember him waking me up in the night once because it smelt too purple inside his nose. He tells me that his friends' names all have colours and sounds/pitches.

I am a fanny. Just indignantly googled Gormless Ben and turns out I was thinking of Jim Bob Grin

Jim Bob was definitely the worst Walton.

But he could play the banjo. I'd say in West Virginia banjo proficiency vaulted one up the Most Desirable lists!

Handy for scaring off incomers @MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake

What are you trying to achieve with this thread other than to upset people and spread hatred?

CustomerService · 22/11/2022 14:39

Actually Ben, yes.

Tabitha does this to me. I really can't stand hearing or reading it.

Oh give over. Do you like every name you hear?

CustomerService · 22/11/2022 14:40

Jjones8 I know sorry, I've asked for it to be removed.

Don't remove this thread! I love talking about synaesthesia.

Mine is the colour coordinated calender in a snakey shape. So each day has a colour. I love it!

(Used to freak me out until I knew what it was!)

True! One twang of the banjo string and you'd be scarpering for your life.

KirstenBlest · 22/11/2022 14:45

I don't like it either. It looks ok, but sounds harsh and nothingy at the same time.
I'm not keen on names with a strong r sound in them, and associate them with mean girls.

Mxflamingnoravera · 22/11/2022 14:46

Clemmie, Lucas, Nate, it's the cast of Emmerdale here. Is that anything to do with you @JaneJeffer?

JaneJeffer · 22/11/2022 14:47

@Mxflamingnoravera I get blamed for everything around here Grin

Beyond awful, haven’t even got the words.

My daughter is called Erin and she is beautiful.

Not sure what your hoping to achieve from this post really. Are you Katie Hopkins?

It’s my DDs middle name too! I love it, and she is also beautiful inside and out. Far nicer than me 😀

threecupsofscreams · 22/11/2022 14:50

I'm a bit scared of synaesthesia, many years ago I was at a friends house and a girl she knew was there who had it and was telling people about their aura and she looked at me and went funny as if there was something bad about me and wouldn't say anything which still worries me to this day.

CustomerService · 22/11/2022 14:50

I'd forgotton about the Waltons. I loved it, my parents tolerated it.

My daughter is called Eireann.. I think its a lovely name.. other daughter is called Saoirse which is also Irish.

TrashyPanda · 22/11/2022 14:55

I feel like that with the names Seth and Silas. They just give me thoughts of sly and untrustworthy. Or sleekit, as we Scots say.

no idea why as I’ve never met any one with either name.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 22/11/2022 14:56

‘Spreading hatred’?? FGS when did things get so batshit crazy? Don’t be so utterly ridiculous.

OP has made it quite clear it’s not about the name itself and instead is a visceral reaction. Very likely to be synaesthesia. And even if it wasn’t...people are allowed to not like stuff.

Tiani4 · 22/11/2022 14:57

Erin is an Irish name
We have Erin's in our family, Niamhs, etc (Irish family)

I love their names. It feels a bit uncomfortable to single out a name like this
Erin literally means Ireland 🇮🇪 and is pronounced Air-rin

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 22/11/2022 14:58

@threecupsofscreams why on earth would it worry you? It was a function of how her brain works, not some kind of insight into the depths of your being...
