Is Hope too much or too cheesy?

Just wondering.

DH suggested it as a middle name.

I always sort of liked it and wondering if I should add it as a second middle name because its meaning is just so lovely but can't really see it as the only middle name.

Then I'm wondering if it might be too cheesy or overused in the middle? Is it already the new Grace or Rose?

I'm also wondering whether the sound is actually nice? I like it on paper and the meaning but when I say it many times in a row it sometimes sounds fine and sometimes a bit odd.

Just sort of thinking this through, happy for any input.

One of my friends has a daughter called Hope. It's a lovely name. Never really thought anything of it. She's 29 now. Go for it.

cruel people/kids will turn it into hopeless

Adventing · 13/11/2022 13:57

Its lovely

Derrymum123 · 13/11/2022 14:06

I love that name. Cannot see any problems whatsoever.

WildCherryBlossom · 13/11/2022 14:09

It's lovely! A refreshing change from Grace and Rose in terms of single syllable middle names.

toastofthetown · 13/11/2022 14:18

It's fine in the middle. It doesn't feel as overdone as Grace or Rose and I can't see it becoming that way either. It doesn't feel as fresh as Wren, June or Joy which I see being suggested more in the middle spot and more likely to become the new filler middle names, not that Rose and Grace seem to be slowing! Hope feels more to me like it ran alongside Grace but was less popular than it will take over the position to me. Personally I don't love it, but if it has meaning to you then I think it's sweet.

riotlady · 13/11/2022 14:18

Love it!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 13/11/2022 14:21

I LOVE virtue names and would have used one, had I had a daughter. I personally liked Patience, Verity and Joy, but Hope is very pretty too.

Do they turn Grace into Graceless? Nope.

Luckingfovely · 13/11/2022 14:24

I think it's lovely!

It's a bit wet (IMO) the thing is with names, it's really down to you and what you like. Whatever you choose people will love it or hate it

Maybe you're right and I'm being unduly pessimistic.
I'm probably biased cos' I worked with someone who had a double barrel surname Hope-Ross and people referred to them as Hope-Less, mainly in a jokey way.

Horrible kids can turn any name into something awful to be honest.

Hope is a beautiful name.

CrimsonThunder · 13/11/2022 16:45

It's a lovely name. I like it along with Honor, Faith and Patience

4onway · 13/11/2022 17:14

I’ve taught many Hopes and have never once heard a kid call them Hopeless. I really wouldn’t worry about that!

RambamThankyouMam · 13/11/2022 17:38

Horrible.

To northerners she'll be "Orp."

Wtafis · 13/11/2022 17:41

DD has it as a middle name, she was born 2020

Berlinlover · 13/11/2022 17:49

Terrible name sorry.

chisum · 13/11/2022 17:56

Lovely.

fairycupcakes · 13/11/2022 17:56

I think it’s beautiful ❤️

HuntingoftheSnark · 13/11/2022 18:29

can't you see why teasing in this case might have been a bit easier? This thread is about second middle.
That said, if I am picking second middle name I would go crazy.

They really won't. It's a lovely name.

"That said, if I am picking second middle name I would go crazy..." and pick something that is guilty pleasure of mine

NiceGarden · 13/11/2022 19:30

Sorry, I didn't read the OP properly, I thought it was for the first name.
Hope for middle or second middle is fine.
