Denver & Dallas for twins

Greenisbeautiful · 10/11/2022 11:17

I am 31 weeks pregnant and my husband keeps insisting on the names Denver and Dallas for our identical twin girls. He told his entire family (without my knowledge) that it was the names WE picked. Personally I find it ridiculous.

My favorite names are Aurora and Elisa or Lola and Helena.

What do you think ?

Btw I am American and he is British. I am from Chicago, Illinois. So far away from Denver,Colorado or Dallas, Texas.

Love your names and think his names are awful. I wouldn't give twins the same initial (like Topsy and Tim or the Kardashians) and think that naming after places is tacky anyway. Has he been to Denver and Dallas? Does he have some sort of romantic notion about what they are like ? It's like when people pick Harlow as a name despite Harlow the place being not so great. Brooklyn Beckham sounds more normal after many years of hearing it but I would still avoid names of places as a theme.

rainbowstardrops · 10/11/2022 11:53

Don't let him do this to your twins! 😂
I sincerely hope you laughed in his family's faces and made it crystal clear that it's not going to happen?!!!

FlounderingFruitcake · 10/11/2022 11:55

I’d assume they’d been conceived in the restroom during a United airlines flight from DFW to DEN 🤷‍♀️

Marlow & Harlow

Northampton and Southampton?

Bury and Derry?

Kiplingroad · 10/11/2022 11:58

Delys is beautiful and sounds like Dallas so you might sway him there.
Elisa is also lovely but the two together are a bit of a mouthful.
Maybe Delys and Aurora/Helena?
I'd be more worried about the fact that he's being so overbearing about names TBH

WinterLobelia · 10/11/2022 12:00

Debbie Does Dallas was a porn film from ages back. The 70s. That was my firs thought and probably not an association you/he would want?!

I have never been to Texas or Colorado and neither did he. I don't personally want my children to be associated with a red state. My husband loves the US very very much, I have no idea where his love comes from ( certainly the mass media)

Personally the only geographical names I am OK with are Georgia, Florence, Asmara.

Marlow & Harlow

We actually had unrelated babies with these two names on my ward a few weeks ago. It was a nightmare!
"You mean Harlow, definitely not Marlow" and vice Versa was the refrain all day!

finished31 · 10/11/2022 12:02

Oh my days....is he on glue lighthearted!

On a serious note, can he name the babies without you present? Is he likely to sneak off and do praying for you he doesn't

I told his family that no they weren't going to be named Dallas and Denver. All he did is repeat "she's joking". I am just gonna name the babies alone.

This. Poor Dallas will resent Denver forever.

Dakota is at least better than Dallas.

Savannah is a million times better than either.

And Aspen is beautiful.

If he must go with American City names, he could at least pick better choices.

TheSausageKingofChicago · 10/11/2022 12:08

Oh OP, I’m with you 100%. I’m not usually a fan of ‘show him this thread’, but I think in this instance you should.

Sunbird24 · 10/11/2022 12:09

Has he explained why he’s settled on those two specifically, or has he just chosen them at random?

MightyAtlantic · 10/11/2022 12:10

Tell him he is only in charge of naming pets.

Or try and persuade him to go for Charlotte and Helena, which as well as being cities are perfectly normal names.

Choconut · 10/11/2022 11:39

Your names are beautiful, his are fucking hideous. Dallas and Denver sound like a pair of lesbian porn stars.

I was going to say strippers but porn stars also works.

Hooverphobe · 10/11/2022 12:16

He’s a fucking fool, it should be Dallas and Dynasty - or at least Sue-Ellen and Alexis.

Pity the poor twins aren’t named Arkansas and Delaware. 😔

rainbowstardrops · 10/11/2022 12:16

If he loves the names Dallas and Denver so much then tell him to go and buy a couple of hamsters!

MrsMoastyToasty · 10/11/2022 12:20

I suggest Nepnett Thrubwell and Ryme Intrinseca.
Both are names of small villages in South west England.

CraigDavid · 10/11/2022 12:20

Porn star names. Not really what most people aim for with baby names...

Spookypig · 10/11/2022 12:27

Denver and Dallas are so bad. They sound like joke names, like someone was challenged to think of the worst possibly twin set names they can imagine 😂 I mean MAYBE one of the names might be tolerable alone (depending on who you are)? but together they’re hideous.

I love Helena and Elise and Aurora is nice too.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 10/11/2022 12:28

I know this can’t be real, but thanks, OP, you’ve given me a much needed laugh today.

ohyouknowwhatshername · 10/11/2022 12:34

Well I'm a fan of the south coast but I wouldn't call my children Bognor and Brighton. In the nicest possible way, he must be nuts.

2bazookas · 10/11/2022 12:36

Aurora, Elisa and Helena are classical elegant names that will last a lifetime in any woman's lifestyle.

Lola is linked to Lolita, ( in the book of that name, Lolita was a child sexually abused by a much older man). An eternal embarrassment in Western educated or literate circles.

Dallas and Denver (like all those geographical names) will become as outdated as Sue-Ellen and JR. By the time the DD's reach adulthood they will be heartily sick of misgendering and social- pigeonholing by their outdated names.

Course, if iittle Dallas and Denver grow up to be transmen or gun assassins they might be glad of their names.....

TruestRepairman · 10/11/2022 12:37

Bit niche, but my first thought was the aggressively wholesome Denver and Dakota of the Sweetums dynasty in Parks and Rec:

MichaelFabricantWig · 10/11/2022 12:39

Denver and Dallas are horrendous
