Lovely. My best friend at school was Frances, which is more staid than Francesca! I've taught a Francesca of Italian heritage (although she'd be well into her 20s now) and I think she was usually called 'Chesca' as a nickname.

toastofthetown · 05/11/2022 15:48

It’s fine, but I much prefer Frances. The only nickname I like is Fran. Cesca/Chessy etc. aren’t to my taste and I find Frankie downright awful.

Westfacing · 05/11/2022 15:55

It's a lovely name - looks and sounds elegant.

As for nicknames... I'm a firm believer in thinking that they grow organically and yer don't plan them!

TheGriffle · 05/11/2022 15:56

I know 2 Francescas, one goes by Frankie or Franks and the other Chessy.

MajorCarolDanvers · 05/11/2022 15:57

Lovely

Stick with Francesca and don't bother with nicknames

Spidey66 · 05/11/2022 16:01

I like it, I think it's pretty timeless. I've heard the nn 'Checky' for it.

teensandtoddlers · 05/11/2022 16:03

I have a Francesca! Frankie for short.

b8tes7sw · 05/11/2022 16:11

Love the name, Cesca for short. Not a fan of Fran.

Roselilly36 · 05/11/2022 16:17

Gorgeous name, only known one, her nn was Frankie.

Theoldwoman · 05/11/2022 16:24

It’s one of my top ten girls names!

PassThePortMrsNorris · 05/11/2022 16:25

Love it! I know a few. Chessy, cheska and franny are the shortening they get. Range in age from 7 to 40ish

I think it's timeless and classic.

PinkSyCo · 05/11/2022 16:26

Lovely name, but I would hate if people shorted it to Fran or Franny. Frankie’s a bit better, as is Chesca.

creideamhdóchasgrá · 05/11/2022 16:29

Lovely name. You might consider using Francesca and she can decide which, if any, nicknames she likes/dislikes? :)

Violinist64 · 05/11/2022 16:30

A lovely name.

Teeshirt · 05/11/2022 16:30

I like it. I also like Frances. The Francesca I know was shortened to Franca. (Italian heritage).

Windbeneathmybingowings · 05/11/2022 16:31

Oh I love this so much! Fran, Frankie, all amazing!

Velvetbee · 05/11/2022 17:21

Love it, got to work with an amazing one this year.

perenniallymessy · 05/11/2022 17:23

That was our name if either DS was a DD. We were planning on going for either Frankie or Effie as a nickname.

Candleabra · 05/11/2022 17:26

Gorgeous name. And loads of nickname options too. I always think shortened names need to evolve as the baby grows, it seems a bit forced to say this is X but known as Y

Sandysandwich · 05/11/2022 17:52

I've known a Frank, Frankie, Cissy, Chesca, Essa and Fran

RambamThankyouMam · 05/11/2022 17:56

I love it as a full name. Fran is ugly as hell, and Chesca is a bit try-hard.

pilates · 05/11/2022 17:57

lovely

HouseofHolbein · 05/11/2022 18:06

Youngest is Francesca. Goes by her full name most of the time. Sometimes Frank at home or Frankenstein 😁 and running up to Christmas she turns into Frankincense 👍

Escourtie · 05/11/2022 18:15

Beautiful name you should use it
X

AllPlayedOut · 05/11/2022 18:16

It's ok. Frankie is utterly hideous though.
